Astra H head gasket gone.

My wife's Astra 197000k on clock has blown the head gasket. I spoke to my mechanic on the phone and he said it would be expensive. Timing chain and assorted stuff, getting head skimmed, plus time and other possible pitfalls. We're going to get another car during the week.

Just wondering what's the best option for getting rid of it.

Scrap it or sell it as a going concern? It just passed the NCT last week.

If you are certain it is the head gasket then no one will be willing to buy the car for driving.

But put it on adverts and donedeal for a while, someone may be needing it as a spare parts car.

    Thanks Biko.

I'm almost sure the gasket is gone. Oil was changed last week and it looks all sh1tty now. Oil filler cap is all gunged up and the coolant water is all murky as well. Just 150 Km after being serviced.

Not the end of the world. It owes us nothing and we were thinking of changing this year anyway. It was well looked after before and after we got it. Would be a good project for someone.

Mechanic is going to come and have a look later in the week and tell me for sure. Probably stick it on DD and as you say someone might want it for parts. Would rather that than let it go to the crusher

A certain car dealer that pushes vw in Portumna, that’s where to go with it. Shut up say nothing and get it exchanged. Problem solved I guarantee they will not Evan look at it.

    Conclusion.

Put it on Done Deal. Got 250 this evening. Truck coming for it tomorrow.

Local scrapyard offered me 50 if I brought it there and nothing if they had to collect it. I wasn't going to chance a 10 Km drive with oil like whipped cream.
