Hi folks. Need to change my beloved Toyota :D I am looking for a SUV. Not 7 seater. No larger than 1.4 as my eldest is learning to drive and for insurance reasons. Would love some suggestions as I am clueless ...thanks all

Seat Ateca, you’d get a 2018 within budget.

As far as I'm aware engine capacity really isn't factored into insurance anymore. The popularity of turbocharged engines means even 1.0L engines are putting out 120bhp+.

You will be fairly limited in crossovers with 1.4 litre or smaller engines unless you go for something from the small crossover range such as a Hyundai Kona/Kia Stonic. Those cars are pretty tight space wise if that's important as they are based on super mini cars like the i20 and Rio. As said the Ateca is one of the fewer larger crossovers with a 1.4 litre engine. The Nissan Qashqai would be another and is available in 1.2 litre petrol. Toyota CH-R were also available for a while in 1.2 litre but that engine was dropped and CH-Rs go for crazy money even 4 year old ones. You might scrape into a 2017 on your budget if you fancy one.
