Psychiatry or General Practice as a career

    I’m a junior doctor trying to decide between a career in GP and psychiatry .

    I don’t have any family in medicine so that’s why I’m reaching out here .

    Some things I’ve found it hard to figure out ;

    Who gets a better work / life balance ?
    How much does a GP get paid ( I know it varies ) ?
    How do consultant psychiatrists find the call ?
    How difficult is it to progress from BST to HST and how long does it usually take?

    Any other advice anyone can offer about either of the two .

    I enjoy my current job in psychiatry but I’m worried I’ll regret not doing something with a shorter training scheme . I do also enjoy medicine and I think I would be suited to being a GP. I do plan on having kids in the next 5-6 years .

    Thank you
