Extended cab pickups in Ireland

I'm in the market for a new pickup, probably a Hilux or a Ranger. I may buy new or a used one that just a year or two old. What I'm really after is an extended cab pickup, rather than a crew cab, as the bed space is what I will use most, but space inside to lock tools away would be great. The tiny seats in the back aren't an issue, I'd never use them.

I have been unable to get a straight answer from the dealers as to why they don't sell extended cabs in Ireland. Has anyone here ever ordered one in Ireland? You can get a single cab or crew cab no problem. I know the sell extended cabs in the UK market.

Is there a legal reason why the aren't sold in Ireland or does anyone know what the story is?

My gut feeling is that it may have something to do with how Revenue class them as crew cabs for commercial or VRT purposes. If the extended ones don't fall under the crew cab criteria then higher VRT rates may make them too expensive to bring in here. Just my theory though.

We got some new ones from the North years ago but they were liable for the full whack VRT so we took the stupid rear seats out and regged them as single cabs.

Back when you could do that.

Thanks for the reply's, Id' actually be happy to get an extended cab with no rear seats at all and have it registered as a 2 seat commercial.

I'll have to get on to a different dealer to see if it can be done,

Try Tadhg Riordans in Ashbourne, they brought in a bit of brand new uk stuff back in the day.

Nissan had a version of the Navara they called a “King Cab” as well as the twin cab a few years ago which was a two seater with a big space for tools etc. behind the seats , and a rear-hinged half rear door. I don’t know if they still bring them in though, (or even manufacture them anymore).
