Check hotels.com and the likes. Bear in mind to keep it within the 5k limit if it’s during level 5 restrictions or you may risk your friend getting a hefty fine.

Hotels only allowed to accept essential travelers/workers under level 5, not open for leisure bookings.

Go onto booking.com - if a hotel is open it's on that generally.

I travel with work and just so you know, the nice hotel experience is gone for the moment, it can be fairly depressing depending on the hotel. Plus, most ask for essential worker letter bit I suppose it's easy enough get/make one of them if you want.

Thanks all. Did not realise about being an essential worker!

Seriously dude stay the hell at home. This sort of bull**** does not help when we're trying to deal with a oandemic. At least wait a month ir two to see if the restrictions are eased.
It's a complete dick move to forge a letter claiming to be an essential worker (or to encourage others to do that)

Staying in a hotel is pretty miserable at the moment. No one around. No bar/restaurant/leisure center etc. Food left on a tray at your door. Can't see what the appeal would be.

It'd be like Alan Partridge in the Travel Tavern.
