You have to hand back the 15k installation aid to qualify.

Does "set up prior to 2008", exclude those who set up in 2008?

I thought the forgotten farmers were those who missed out on both the installation aid and entry to the NR/YFS?

Seemingly not according to this article and from the minister.
Installation aid was suspended/finished in Oct 2008.

This article claims it for those who started farming before 2008.

    Strange oul world!

When the YFS came out there was a cut off, if you had started farming more than 5 years previous you wouldn't be considered.

I had set up more than 5 years previous so no YFS for me.

    No instalation aid either.

I’m in the same boat as you

    I didn’t get the aid, but wasn’t it 10k?

No, I think it was 15k...

*I think* it was 9k for a while, then 15k, then it went...

As well as being under 40 in 2015 would you have to have the green cert?

I think that would be unreasonable. A lot, including myself, would only have suffered the Green Cert to get into the scheme. No scheme, SFA reason to do the GC.

Probably have to do it with any modified scheme.

A rush of optimism on my part, the thought struck me, I'm now over 40.............. Will a new scheme include us old farts.

He's referring to the new CAP which doesn't come start till the end of next year, there'll be big changes then

Applying for the BPS at the moment and there's still no provision in the national reserve young farmer scheme section for forgotten farmers. Emailed the department and the comment below was part of the response. Still some hope there for it, but not until next cap comes into play.

"The Programme for Government ‘Our Shared Future’ contains a commitment to seek to resolve, under the next CAP, the issue of support for the category of farmers known as Forgotten Farmers."
