Annual Leave entitlement

    I am wondering what the annual leave entitlements are if you work three and a half days a week. When working five days a week I received 21 days annual leave and wondering what it would be if I was working all the time on three and half days. Also if Thursday was my day off during the week and as this year St Patrick's Day falls on a Wednesday does that mean I still have Thursday off or do I work. I have never worked part time and just want to gather all information.

    thanks

    Annual leave and bank holidays are separate things so we'll look at them separately;

    Annual Leave: For part-time workers, annual leave is usually calculated as 8% of your total hours. So if you work 8 hour days, that means you do 28 hours a week.
    Which means that every week, you are entitled to 2.24 hours of annual leave.
    Scale that up over a year (52 weeks) and it works out to about 116 hours of annual leave you're entitled to (at a minimum). That's 14.5 full days off, which is about 4 weeks annual leave.
    If 21 days is typical for your employer, then 14.7 days would be the equivalent for someone who works 3.5 days a week.

    Public Holidays are an entitlement separate to annual leave and you don't have to "work" them back. So if Paddy's Day falls on a Wednesday, your employer has three options:

    1. Give you Wednesday off and pay you for it
    2. Have you work Wednesday and pay you for working AND pay you for Paddy's Day (i.e. pay you twice)
    3. Have you work Wednesday and give you another paid day off soon afterwards

    Your employer can't give you Wednesday off and make you come in on Thursday unless they pay you for both days.

    When you work PT you are paid your normal rate of pay for a bank holiday if that day falls on a day your usually scheduled to work. If the day falls on a day you are not usually scheduled to work then you are paid a % of your pay for that day. Think its 1/5th.

    You should confirm with HR re holidays, but:

    21 days = 1.75 days per month

    21 = 100% (5 days per week)

    If you work 3.5 days...that's 70%

    70% of 21 = 14.7 days

    HOWEVER - when you say 3.5 days, it might be worth checking the actual hrs worked and re-doing the caLc based on hrs. (I would normally calculate holidays using hrs.)

    Re St Patrick's Day - unless agreed otherwise, you should be off on the following day as per schedule, but there may be a local arrangement.

    If you've recently moved to part-time hrs, did you not agree all this with HR or your Manager? You should have this in writing, for your own peace of mind as well as meeting the legal requirement.

    thanks for the replies I will look at the link. I currently work 9am to 5pm for three and half days a week for the moment due to C19. I was told back in December when we agreed these hours that I could keep my 21 days holidays for 2021 as we hope to get back to working five days a week. i just wanted to see what holidays I would have if it turned out that three and a half days was going to be something I could work all the time (2021/2022).
