Is anyone else of the opinion that pcs of about 5 years ago and before were far better and realiable. I have an old k6 machine with 128mb ram and a 8 gig hard drive. its 6 years old or so and it has never failed me. It was so much easier back then as well. I all now fierce complicated with compatability issues and stuff and things just seem to break down alll thetime. I think manuf are pushing the old tech to far. its been pushed to its limits and is starting to fail.

    Whatya think

I dunno about that, I think hardware either fails within the first 90 days of getting it or else not for years when it eventually wheres out.

I have a fairly new dell machine thats a 3ghz machine and I must say it's never really failed me.

Of course there are a lot more viruses, adware and worms out now. But that's just software problems...the hardware seems fine to me.

I don't know what pc you have but mine and most people I know are very reliable. Apart from viruses i've never had a hard-ware failure apart from one dodgey hard-drive. Most hardware is very reliable these days. Compatability issues shouldn't be a problem. Just read the compatability list. It can be confusing with multi sockets for both intel and amd and agp and pci-e for graphics but it's not exactly rocket science. If you buy cheap parts they will break down like any electronic device.

I don't agree, I have a new Pc only crashed once in a year... Not bad really.

Ya got to remember the Technology is much more advanced these days plus there is a hell of a lot more of it so percentage of error has probably dropped not risen. My opinion is bring on all the new stuff :)

I have to agree with the other respondants. 5 years ago disks were failing just as they do today, network cards failed, motherboards had hairline fractures. If anything, hardware is more reliable than it used to be.

My components are no more likely to fail me now than they were 5 years ago, I disagree completely. In fact, all of it is still ticking over nicely, including all the new stuff I've brought in those 5 years too and I expect it to run for many more years just like the rest of my junk I got 5 years ago
