Beautiful song. Beautiful lyrics that ultimately foreshadowed his son's death. Very hard not to get emotional watching this.
Robert Plant did a great version of this.

The Magnetic Fields - Love is Like a Bottle of Gin

Well that was the strangest love song I've ever heard. The singer has one of those gravelly Tom Waits/Nick Cave voices that I've never enjoyed listening to. Not my cup of tea.

Nashville Cast - Fade Into You (Live) (feat. Sam Palladio & Clare Bowen)

Have I listened to this artist before? No

Instantly loved the guitar in the intro and then the ukelele(?) after that. It's a country love song with a bit of a dark tone to it. The lyrics are great too. Love it.

Had a feeling it wouldnt do well! The lyrics of that song just strike a chord with me (and I love gin almost as much as the important people in my life :D )

Richard & Linda Thompson - The Calvary Cross

Have I listened to this artist before? No
Have I listened to this song before? No

This begins with a 50 second guitar with a Middle Eastern sound to it. And then the actual song is completely different. I don't like the lyrics at all, they come across as very subservient "You can be my broom-boy" "Everything you do, You do for me" It's more BDSM song than love song. The actual instrumentation isn't bad but I can't get over the lyrics.

    And our winner is.....

In 1st place with 25 points is
    Neowise

John Legend - All of Me

Have I listened to this artist before? Yes
Have I listened to this song before? Yes

As far as I'm concerned this is right up there with the greatest love songs ever. I feel like it doesn't get enough recognition because it's relatively new. If it was released in the 70's or 80's you'd all agree. Oh you still don't agree? Well tough bananas.

    Lamb - Gabriel

To quote the Black Eyed Peas...Where is the love? It's an industrial song that reminds me more of stepping outside in this horrible weather than a romantic night by the fire.
    I can fly
    But I want his wings
I can shine even in the darkness
But I crave the light that he brings
Revel in the songs that he sings
    My angel Gabriel

    I can love
    But I need his heart
I am strong even on my own
But from him I never want to part
He's been there since the very start
    My angel Gabriel

Well even though the tin man is a good bit behind me, after this next song I'd say well & truly ill have plummeted ..

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,251 ✭✭✭speckle

Robert Plant did a great version of this.

Absolutely yep...aswell as This Mortail Coil's version...which I heard and loved before I found the original and then I fell even deeper in love with its shimmering beauty...aaahhh

Yes, definitely, she was rather happy when he was declared People's sexiest man alive :D and that is my favourite song so far of both rounds (not counting my own *cough*) ;)

Are there any other EGOT holders in there so far either?

I love This Mortal Coil's version, really haunting vocals.

You really love your ballads Shane, definitely haven't thought this through. . .

    Round 3 It's not me, It's you

    Reberetta

    The B-52's - Ain't It A Shame

Have I listened to this artist before? Yes
Have I listened to this song before? No

Never been a fan of this band so I was expecting the worst. Rock Lobster and Love Shack are just plain annoying. This however is nothing like those songs. It's a chill new wave song and I really enjoyed it.

If Britney Spears dumped me I would probably go and cry into a pillow for eternity so fair play to JT for putting this song out. He issued an apology on Friday for benefitting from putting her down. Bit late pal you've just had a 20 year career off the back of it

Super positive pop song for all the single people out there! Only thing that bugs me about it is that key change when she says "anytime , day or night". It's like one singer started it and now they're all at it. Stop it!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,251 ✭✭✭speckle

oh gosh..I just remebered what I put on for this round... I was going to put on a slow cover version of one of my favourite songs..then did a 360 as change from my other choices and went for some fun instead  :D

Enya's "Boadicea" sample is a great start, in fact it plays all the way through the song. Piano and strings come in eventually, both great. Not crazy about the Puff Daddy verse, there's some really bad lyrics in there "Gave you extra cheese, put you in the SUV. You wanted ice so I made you freeze, made you hot like the West Indies" Dreadful stuff.
