I wood not know what to do in that situation. I’d probably try shove it back in, put the locks up, claim it was vandalism, no body could say any different.

Does anyone know where that photo was taken?

Looks very photoshopped to me. I very much doubt driving up a hill of that gradient would result in a coffin going through the back window unless he thought it was a Formula 1 race he was starting.

Ha no way, I was obsessed with it being taken around Limerick, somewhere near the train station near Roxboro road. Could never find the right spot on Google maps tho.

He hit the brakes too hard doing a dangerous manoeuvre: he was undertaking.

This looks shopped. I can tell from some of the pixels and from seeing quite a few shops in my time.

I’ve been using Photoshop professionally since 1993 (version 2.5, before layers were even supported), and in my view, there’s nothing specific to indicate that the picture is Photoshopped. It was clearly taken with a low resolution camera, and there’s a huge amount of jpeg compression artefacts, which give the impression of “manipulation”. It looks to me like it’s been saved and resaved as a jpeg a few times, which is likely for an image that has been passed around the web for a decade.

Do you think it's weird there doesn't seem to be any glass on the road? Or that the man on the right doesn't seem to fit the shadows that fall on the ground to the right of the vehicle?

That said, the reflection of light or the sun on the casket is very convincing.

The glass could easily be on the road between the coffin and the car behind. In fact given that the hearse must have been moving further this to occur, you would expect it to be there. That’s a bit like saying “isn’t it weird that the car the photographer is in didn’t have a bonnet”. It obviously does, you just can’t see it from the perspective of the photographer.

I don’t see as anything odd about the shadows. That long, thin shadow you see out to the right isn’t his - it’s possibly that of the hearse driver’s door, which is likely open behind him. He’s not as tall as the hearse, so he’s not actually casting a shadow (well, he is, but it’s being cast inside the hearse’s shadow do you can’t see it). Remember, the sun isn’t coming in from the direct left side of the hearse , it’s in front of it too. So the man, being smaller than the hearse, is entirely in its shadow.

another thing the break in the rear windscreen is a tad too clean, the whole windscreen would surely have caved in not just a section of it

I had a rear window of a car smash on me (see attached image), and it did exactly that - a big hole in it. While rear windows aren’t laminated like windscreens, they are designed to break into tiny chunks that stay in place unless physically dislodged.

And in the resulting whiplash compo case it turned out there were 17 occupants of the coffin.

It was in Drogheda, it was covered by some websites at the time.

    https://www.her.ie/life/epic-fail-grave-mistake-made-by-hearse-driver-in-drogheda-30424

    https://www.joe.ie/uncategorized/pic-coffin-smashes-through-rear-window-of-hearse-334390

As explained in the articles, the hearse was moving off having been stopped at traffic lights (not braking suddenly) when it happened, so the glass on the ground would be behind the hearse, and so not visible in the shot.

Imagine in the future if they dig this person up, they'll be wondering why he is all shoved up to the top of the coffin.
