    Hi

Im looking at a 520D 2019. It has 20km on the clock. Was imported from UK by first service done here by the Irish garage selling it.(Non-main dealer)
When i looked for its first UK service I was told it was bought directly from a UK main dealer who used it as demo car and so its first service was done in Ireland
I am concerned as no way of validating UK millage
    Any thoughts welcome

    thanks

I think the service interval on those is 25k - 30k km. If it were serviced by a main BMW dealer then it should be listed digitally in the car's idrive system.

Thanks Bazz, nothing in the digital record from Uk. First service done in Ireland when it arrived

I think could be too good to be true but maybe I'm paranoid

Sounds like to me that it was sold one before the first service interval was due. If it was serviced by an Irish BMW dealer then it will be in the idrive also. If it was service by a non BMW dealer then they probably didn't have the means to update the idrive system, I'd still look for receipts of what was done. For a first service it should have got an oil and oil/air filters changed and maybe an inspection. You can check the vehicle status to see what service items are due soon and at what mileage/date it estimates they need attention. If it's almost 2 years old then it will probably be due a brake fluid change also. At the end of the day if there are any doubts then just move onto the next one as there are plenty of these out there for sale.

The amount of cars in from the UK that are "ex-demo" cars is unreal.
To be honest, I'd get the car checked over by a competent mechanic as it's strange that a main dealer would sell a demo car without giving it its first service.

What iind of warranty is being offered with it?
Are BMW Irl honouring BMW GB issued warranties?

It will still have the remainder of the BMW 3 year warranty. So up to at least Jan 2022, or later, depending on month of first registration.

If that warranty was offered to a car imported from outside the EU, is it still honoured within the EU?

Yes I have the receipt for the Irish service, just concerned it was clocked before then ( in the UK)

Relation bought one last weekend, delivered from a wexford garage UK car originally
white msport 32 k mileage, beautiful motor warranty 6 months, he's happy enough as in his mind if something is not quite right it's surely going to be a come to light within the warranty time period, peace of mind comes from its a garage in business for years with a good reputation, fingers crossed, so hopefully your in the same boat,
2018 car( same garage sold 3 in the same week so must be doing something OK)

    Ps it might be 2019

6 month warranty on a 2019 bmw doesn't make sense. It would still be covered under the 3 yr manufacturers warranty. I'd say it's a 2018.

Even on a 2018 car a 6 month warranty is fairly mean unless the car is already 2.5 years old and the 6 months is a dealer specific extension beyond the manufacturer's warranty.

If the OP was to buy the car second hand from BMW there would be a two year warranty covering pretty much everything (except consumables), roadside assistance and NCT (if applicable).
If I was offered six months on a 2019 a premium brand car, I'd be offended.

All depends on the price, that 2 year warranty is built into the price you pay for the car

If your worried about the mileage being clocked bring it to a main dealer and ask them to check. Modern cars store mileage in a number of different modules and the lads clocking them are really only interested in the one that sends the signal to the dash.

Personally as regards recommended service intervals I’d throw them out the window. I’ve had 2 5 series and both were serviced every 12k Kms and both are still going without any issue and both cars have high mileage on them now.

Could be, he's delighted with it and don't want to bust his bubble with anything negative this early, had a hard year autistic kid, shot down for a mortgage (hence the new motor)

I bought two BMW's over the last 2 years from main dealers in the UK and both came with History and Mileage Verification Certs so could contact the BMW dealer in UK and ask if they still have that record? Would know then what mileage was on car when they sold it. Also when vrt was paid isn't mileage recorded? I think you can get these details from some of the car checker websites?

Not strange at all with the condition based servicing on BMW’s.
If the service is not due then bmw won’t service it before selling.

Doesn’t drive anywhere near as good as the G30 BMW unfortunately.

Wife is getting a BMW in the next couple of weeks. Sales guy said it is covered warranty wise for any serviceable parts anywhere in Europe for the first 3 years.

Long time since a BMW 5 series had much of an edge on competition as regards driving dynamics, not since e39, of which I have had 2. E60 and F10 (of which I had one each) could be mistaken for any of the competition if you took logos and badges off you'd be hard pressed to tell handling characteristics apart. More comfortable cars now, they are no longer sports saloons in any sense.

Thats been taken on by the increased range below them, 1 series, 2 series, 3 series, 4 series and the variations within.

Forgive my ignorance but even from googling it’s hard to find any meaningful explanation on this :

What are the difference between all these letters before a BMW?

I would be into cars but only know them as 5 series 520D/525 etc followed by the trim SE, M Sport, M sport plus etc

What are G30s, F’s, Es? It normally doesn’t say anything about that when you’re looking on auto trader etc?

Its the generations of them, E12 were the first 5 series from 1972 to 1980, G30 is the current generation launched in 2017. A new generation is a completely newly designed model.

    In between you have the E28, E34, E39, E60, F10

7 generations of the 5 series, usually a new one every 7 to 8 years. Half way through each generation they usually do a bit of a refresh, but its not redesigned.

Mercedes do the same designating models with a W and 3 numbers, like W212 Audi do the same with a single letter and single number, C6, C7, C8

The E/F/G reference originally started with Exx where E stood for Entwicklung (German word for "development") and xx were sequential numbers.
Most of the E numbers never made it into actual production but were more design/development references.
The naming caught on and now we're at Gxx.

The different models or generations all had their own reference but as mentioned, any update to a model half way through their life weren't given new numbers; they were just referred to as LCIs (Life Cycle Impulse) and tended to freshen up the look of a model (usually after about 3 or 4 years).

This page lists them all with an image to represent them: http://www.bmw-carparts.co.uk/bmw-e-numbers/
