Starlet lug nuts

I've a starlet here (1991) and I wanted to change the old wheel nuts to standard lug nuts (they were previously spline shaped extended nuts which were a total pain, and I don't need the security of them.

The hub bolts are standard, but new lug nuts from the breakers don't seem to go on properly.

If I thread them on the wrong way around (dome out) they go on fine. If I put them on dome facing in, they go maybe one thread before getting stuck.

When they're the wrong way around, they go on the whole way so its not a dirty thread issue.

Could the pitch of the thread be that specific?

How can you put wheel nuts in the wrong way around, can you show a pic?

Of course you could put some wheel nuts on the wrong way and later you find a wobble in the car as nuts are coming loose as not centred. Were the old ones extended chrome ones or just plain ones.

If nut can go on backwards it should also go on cone in .WD 40 quick spray on the studs can help.

There are different pitches on nuts and hub wheel studs.

You'll need m12 x 1.5 nuts, they should just fit (from the vast majority of toyota cars). - are the ones you got the right pitch? - they could be 1.25 or something else

Then they wouldn't screw down on the stud at all.
