So another new thread for the Investments & Markets page! This one may merit a separate thread.

I’ve a very diversified portfolio myself and I’ve a few ev related stocks currently. I’ve been considering adding an EV truck stock to my portfolio. I’m wondering has anyone here invested in an EV truck stock yet?

You would imagine whoever is first to crack this space is onto a winner. I’m considering one of 1) HYLN, 2) DCRB and 3) DCRB

I think Daimler maybe in this space also. I’ve probably missed some relevant stocks so please feel feee to add to the list above.

    Tesla semi ?
Especially with a 500 mile range (they recently said they might stretch that to closer to 600)
I know tesla share price is mad but lately im beginning to wonder is it actually cheap at its recent price.

I think there'll be a lot of change over the next while in regarding to trucking. I read that Daimler has split it's car and trucking businesses into separate entities so could have a few plans up their sleeve.

Also i think may believe that the future of trucking will be with hydrogen rather than batteries due to the sheer amount sof energy required for trucking. So could be worthwhile reading into that.

    Arrival
    BYD
    Workhorse
    Proterra
    Lion Electric

I don't own any myself but I know a lot of people were waiting on proterra to go public similar with the lucid hype but It hasn't had the same press since.

Theres a rumour that NGAC will merge with Xos EV trucks. Xos supply trucks to UPS and cash handling firm Loomis. Might be similar to CCIV-Lucid situation.

Take a look at NGA also. A SPAC rumored to be merging with Lion Electric. The share price has dropped recently, so might be a good time to get in, of course i purchased at the high but still confident long term. They have also signed a deal with Amazon for up to 2,500 vehicles which could also lead to Amazon take a % ownership in the company.

From doing some reading, they are currently Canadian based, so need to setup in the US to take full advantage of Biden EV policies and potential business. Ability to ramp up production also a potential issue (but that seems to be for all EV companies out there at the minute)

Rivian might be a player in this area, especially since Jeff Bezos has more freetime on his hands after leaving his Amazon CEO role (I am speculating).

They already have an order for 100,000 (!!!) vans from Amazon.

Rivian trucks also appeared on Ewan McGregor & Charlie Boorman's HarleyDavidson LiveWire road trip last year.

Getting in on the Rivian IPO would be nice, but I fear that anyone outside of the US won't get a sniff.

This article suggests that the IPO could be as early as September, but may run into next year.

I'm actually sitting here wondering if Amazon might end up buying them out, given the number of vehicles they'll need, and ability to produce, then later upgrade them etc. Whether they later decided to have exclusive access to the vehicles, or allow sales to third parties once they got priority, is then the follow up question.

The liked the company that built their robots for their warehouse so much, that they bought that company years ago, although obviously, that was a lot less money.

    Thanks,

    G.

I was considering this SPAC. However; I see Yates Investing seem to be pushing this one now and that has now made me very weary. I don’t trust a lot of the lads from Yates as I have seen what they’re pushing people to buy the last few weeks. Has anyone got into this SPAC?

Proterra just won a deal as well. I'm not in any of these as I find it way harder to judge than the EV car companies - one or two will win big but we will have some that will fall by the wayside, they need huge capital.

Yes; there are several options here. Garrett made a good point above regarding Rivian also. NGAC is floating around 12 now; but I will hold off for now...

In honesty, I'm favoring investing in an ETF or two, specialising in the wider EV sector, at this stage.

There are too many companies popping up, all associating themselves with the EV sector - you can't invest in them all, keep up to speed with what they are all doing etc etc.

It may well be time to let a specialist fund do the leg work, and spread your risk across 20 plus companies, as the ETF manager sees fit. Then sit back and give it a few years, to see who the true winners are.

    Thanks,

    G.

Rivian look like their intent on making a big splash.

    Thanks,
