Thoughts on engine carbon cleaning

I once owned an Audi and got an engine carbon clean around 165,000kms. People seem to have different opinions on it but I found it helpful, throttle definitely felt "lighter" afterwards and more responsive, also noticed a slight improvement on MPG. Thinking of getting my current car the same treatment but it has near 220,000kms. I've heard about carbon cleaning doing more harm in removing carbon that may have been sealing parts of the engine on higher mileage especially diesels. Any advice on this?

engine flushing and direct injection carbon valve cleaning are two different kettle of fish

I'm talking about when they insert a tube directly into your air intake and run the engine for a certain amount of time

still not clear which your on about ? do you clean the intake or engine itself ?

It's supposed to clean the engine itself, I may be wrong but I think it sprays something in through the intake and its carried through the engine loosens carbon deposits and then its thrown out the back of the exhaust. When I did it with the Audi it threw out a load of black dirt from the exhaust tip. Not terraclean but same process
