Anyone have any experiences with the Renault meganes dci Gt's? In the market for a used one and looking at some up north. Wondering if there's any major issues etc to be aware of if I manage to get a look at the car before thinking of purchasing.

    What year?

Assume you’re up to date on taxes etc for importing?

67 Reg, registered Dec of 2017. Yeah I have worked out VRT etc into the price, still working out cheaper to source up north than anything I can find down here.

I don’t know much about the current model, but the previous generation is quite well regarded anyway. I don’t think there’s any major inherent issues.
Obviously do your checks on the car itself, and make doubly sure you’re aware of the situation with VAT etc.

What kind of money is it working out cleared? I see a 181 for 14.5K on DD.

    Nice Car!

In and around 14k taking into account the exchange rate and all fees. Must have a look again on DD, that 181 wasn't showing up for me before

Just be sure on the fees you're calculating. As the car is EU made and was then sold to the UK it's attracting the following when importing to Ireland:
    VRT/Nox
    VAT @ 21%
    Customs Duty & 10%

You'd want to be making a good saving on the base price to bother with the hassle of it imo.

I was under the impression it would only be VRT and NOX provided the car has been registered by an owner in the NI prior to the dealer acquiring it and me buying it? I've been told it's been in the NI and registered but confirming that myself. If it was a UK car you're right wouldn't be worth the extra fees.

Ahh yes, sorry, I believe you're correct. NI should be fine as long as it wasn't imported from GB. You should just need to pay VRT and NOX charges on it.

There is a high mileage 2018 GT for sale in Sligo for 15k.

This one with less mileage asking 15,700:
    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/renault-megane-gt-line-nav/25204285

Surely you would knock 1k off that for a straight sale and you will have a main dealer warranty on it.

Have my eye on those two alright. Hoping to try get something off the price of the NI one for a straight sale too. Ultimately will depend on the condition of the car, has low miles itself but if it isn't worth it those two would be the main ones I'd go for down here.

Anyone have much experiences with the 1.5 and the 1.6 dci engines? Not too many 1.6s meganes South, have seen contrasting reviews on those dci engines, some say there's not much difference and the 1.5 is good and others say get the 1.6 if you can.

The only experience I have of the 1.6 is driving a car with it and I have to say it’s a stormer of an engine compared to the 1.5, even for a 130ish bhp small engine it’s got great torque.
