I’m looking to buy a new car next week.

Dealer doesn’t have the options I want and says there is a 10-16 week wait for it so not that bothered.

He has a black with beige leather interior or grey with a black leather interior.

I think the black / beige compo looks great. A bit different to the black leather every other car has but how practical is it with kids (8&6)?

I had a Saab 93 years ago with beige leather and loved it but no kids then!

I personally like beige interiors and with leather, I'd be happy enough with the kids. Dark exterior and bright interior can be nice contrast.
Light coloured interiors sometimes extend to much more than seats, dashboard and door cards can be beige too which can be very nice.
What car is it and do you have an image of the interior?

Really depends, what is the car?

I've a beige half leather and alcantera interior with a young child and dog.

It's unmarked after nearly 4 years of both climbing all over it.

Grey paint might be easier to keep than black though.

As in from scratches and such?

I love a tan leather interior and really prefer it to black but black paint is a pain in the hole to keep clean.
My current car is black black and looks great for five minutes a week just after I clean it, otherwise it just looks dirty. Every time I clean it I notice another scratch or blemish too, I’d never buy a black car again.

    Yeah, black is the worst.

Last 2 cars I've owned have been black .
Never ever ever again will I own a black car .
Impossible to keep the outside of it clean .
I've come out of a car wash and 30 minutes later it looks like it hasn't been cleaned in a week .
Next car I will buy will be silver .
For me the best combo is silver on the outside with black leather on the inside .

All you have to do is look at a black car and it gets dirty. Next to impossible to keep clean.

Silver/grey is so boring though with every 2nd car on the road being that.
My current car for the past 6 years is black and don't find it bad at all to keep clean but that said I do very little mileage. It has black leather interior but previous car had beige leather interior which aged that bit quicker. I'd like grey leather interior but not that common.

If it was me and I could afford to wait I would, especially if you plan on hanging onto it a good few years. Get the one you really want.
In saying that, I bought a 3 year old Volvo last July, I was set on dark grey with charcoal or black interior but got sick of looking and when a nice silver one with the blond interior came up, I went with that. I'm very happy with the decision.

Can you try a few other dealers ?

As said black paint is lovely for 5 mins after you wash it. It is near impossible to keep it clean in this country and if your not the sort to wash it every few days then it will just age quicker. I'm also not a fan of dark interiors especially dark leather, they make the cabin feel small and confined whereas a lighter interior makes the cabin airy and feel more premium. Tan/beige/white interiors however require a bit more maintenance especially the seats that show die transfer from clothing as well as even the slightest of scuff marks. If your not into spending a few hours every week cleaning your car then hard to keep exterior and interior colours are best avoided. Silver exterior and grey interior tend to look the same whether clean or dirty.

Tried Nissan direct. Leaf is coming from the UK and lead times are longer than usual with production lower

Narrowed it down to silver and gun metal. Gun metal is metallic and the silver isn't i think

Silver is pretty much always metallic, unless they’re getting creative with their description !

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 23,243 Mod ✭✭✭✭godtabh

In the brochure it says 'blade silver' and 'gun metallic' Thought one was and one wasn't.

I think their brochure is maybe badly written.

If you google some of the pint codes, they come back as metallic, like the green.

Non metallic silver would be grey.

Have a look at the uk Leaf brochure for the proper descriptions.

The only non metallic/pearlescent/special colour is the Solid red.

A beige/white leather interior on a dark coloured car is lovely. There are products you can use to make maintaining them easier. I use Gtechniq L1. It puts a coating on the leather which reduces abrasion, has UV protectants and makes it very easy to wipe off marks, dye transfer etc.

It's a must if you have a light leather interior and want to keep it looking well.

I think I am leaning towards the blade silver now.

Blade silver is a nice colour on them. It’s quite popular on the Qashqai I think and has a nice kind of dark grey look to it sometimes depending on how the lighting is.

I had a look at the sister in law's gunmetal earlier. Probably too dark

The lighter colour is growing on me
