    As the thread title says...
The budget is about 10k and unfortunately it must have 4 doors (they're would loads of options if it was two door)
Looking for something a bit sporty and not too common.
Maybe the budget could stretch a bit and she could get an XJ or go the other way completely and get something smaller, open to all ideas!

Should probably mention she is WFH at the moment but usual daily commute would be 40km round trip.

What is your definition of sporty - sporty to look at and/or sporty to drive? An XJ is not sporty I'm afraid, anything that size will be too big and heavy to be sporty.

If you want something that just looks sporty with 4 doors then have a look at the likes of the Mercedes CLS. If you want something that's sporty to drive then look at a hot hatch, something like a Golf GTi or Focus ST, they are available in 4/5 door.

You are almost in the range of an Ibiza Cupra, 2015 year or so. There is one on DD with just 50,000k for 12 grand.

Small, but 4 doors and 180bhp - very quick and sporty car. Backed up with VW mechanicals.

    That would be my choice.

Yes should have been more specific.I gave the example of the XF as its a nice 4 door car and not too common,it doesn't diesnt meet the sporty description .I might be projecting a bit what I want her to get!

Aren’t those known for being thirsty for oil. 1.4 180 hp ones I presume it is. OP doesn’t seem to be looking for performance. Probably sporty looking trims brands selling with usual engines would be sufficient.

Leon fr 1.4/1.5 tsi 140/150 hp would be my choice.

If 180hp is too sporty for her then I dont know what to advise. It sounds like you don't actually want something sporty at all. 180hp is nippy enough, but nothing mental.

My wife has a 150hp Seat FR and I would not even consider that sporty. Its just about the right amount of power for a daily driver, and while it helps with overtaking on motorways etc, it is by no means a fast car.

Sounds like you just want to get her something that looks nice. If actual 'sportiness' is not important then you have loads of options.

Yeah that's probably a more accurate representation,
    What do you think?

My missus got an Audi A6 SLine 190bhp because she likes the look of big, black Audis but she hated the car, it was too big. She now has a golf 1.4tsi 150bhp and loves it, much nimbler. She thinks its much faster overall, it isn't but it isn't just feels faster and it revs higher.

Stay away from Jags and anything bigger than 3 series/A4 size if she wants a sporty felling car.

I'd recommend something like the Leon or Golf with a decent engine, unless you're carrying a family and all their stuff they will be fine.

    Or a nice CLA.

Mrs has one, and it's surprisingly good on the road, corners well. Is small, but has 4 doors and a boot, is well finished off and does catch a bit of attention, especially in Red.

Might be an option, maybe cheaper than a CLS, especially if inside space isn't most important.
