A fella we're doing a job for keeps getting pigeons coming into his warehouse and ****ting over all his produce. He doesn't want to shoot them . What are the best options , trapping ? If he did trap them , what are the best traps to buy and if he releases the pigeons say 10 miles away , would the pigeons just return to the warehouse ... Thanks

He could get a buzzard decoy and put it near their entryway.
    It might work for him

How feasible is to "seal" the warehouse? IOW prevent them getting in rather than try to deal with them being there at all.

I'd guess pigeons, upon release, would know how to go back to a good feeding spot so capture and release would but the equivalent of sticking your finger in the hole of a boat.

Do you mind me asking why they don't want them shot?

Mad for killing things. I'd hazard a guess because that's inhumane if there's another option?

Perhaps you want to elaborate on that "statement" instead of just posting three word replies that only you understand.

There is a prohibition on the discussion of whether hunting is ethical on this forum for a start. Secondly its the hunting forum so asking here will only elicit the same reply and one that is "expected" given the nature of the forum.

An eagle or hawk kite worked for us with swallows in a shed.

He's tried it and it worked for a while but they copped on after a week or so

Ye I was talking to a fella I know that hunts and he said trappings a waste of time. The owner said he got someone in before and they shot them but 2 weeks later a new crowd were back

That is my thinking too. They're not easily put off and hunger will drive them regardless of the dangers.

My thinking is if culling is out, and trapping is an exercise in futility then prevention is the only course. Stop their ability to enter the warehouse.

Ye , but you've two entrances and there traffic non stop going in and out. Maybe sensor gates or something like that , I don't know

Just shoot them with an air rifle.

Surely there are local clubs in his area with lads who do vermin control.

End of day for someone who likes the vermin control side of things, to drop in every two/three week and do a a few hours/day cull is not a big thing.

If I was in a position to, I would be glad to do it free gratis.

Butcher's curtains would be a cheap start. If they work or reduce the volume of birds then its a start. If not then its not a huge outlay in terms of cost. Automated gates would be and may be no more successful.

What about those bird scarer speakers that emit noise that keep birds away. They were very popular a few years back

That's sounds good , a fella was telling me about a banger farmers use but it'd probably wreck his employees heads

Why would you not want swallow in a shed, do you realise the journeys these birds make to traditional nesting sites😡

Of course I do. The shed was not good for the swallows, it was being renovated. They relocated to an older nest on the eaves of the house. Everyone was happier, the swallows brought on a healthy brood.
