    Hi,

I picked up a skoda Superb in the north on December 16th and booked the vrt inspection for the earliest possible date which was today the 18th Jan. I was under the assumption that if the car was purchased before Dec 31st that the 2020 rates still apply which are about 700e cheaper, however they charged me at the 2021 rates. Would anyone know if I have a case to appeal. They also charged me 125 extra vrt because the inspection was done more than 30 days after the purchase notwithstanding it was the earliest date they would give me.

Nope, they told me in December that anything presented post Jan 1 would be at new rates.

That said, nothing to lose by appealing it anyway.

Regarding the late fees: did you book it online within the 7 days of bringing it in ? If so, I'd argue no late fees are due - the waiting list is Applus' problem.

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

You’ll get the late fees back. I doubt they’ll refund you the 2020/2021 difference but its definitely worth a shot

Unless I am reading this completely wrong, it states that if you can prove the vehicle was imported before the 31st December cut-off, it will be registered the "Pre-Brexit" way: https://www.revenue.ie/en/importing-vehicles-duty-free-allowances/guide-to-vrt/registration-of-imported-used-vehicles/vehicles-imported-from-gb-and-ni.aspx

All you need is a ferry receipt and a sales invoice as proof.... Might bear a little more scrutiny though as I could be understanding the first paragraph wrong altogether.

Thats referring to vat and customs being payable, not the actual vrt rates

Thanks, yeah I brought it in from the north and I have the invoice. I'll appeal the late fees and chance my arm on the 2020 rates.
