Hi, have an overflow pipe constantly dripping and presuming I need a new ballcock replacement in attic tank. A plumber has quoted €180 for supply and fit which seems very dear.

Going to try and get another quote (hard to get people) but appreciate views on cost that would be reasonable.

    Thanks

Sounds expensive certainly. The part is about €10 and up to an hour on site.

Replaced mine about a year ago was easy.

Tie up the ballcock, drain the tank and install the new one.

You'll need an extra wide wrench

No - water supply must be switched off.
4” of water would be enough to drain.

Defo a rip off. 20min job if just swapping out old for new as you don't even need to replace the whole part.

Plumbers are out the door at the moment with work between typical winter heatings issues and people looking to get new bathrooms etc. I'd imagine it's not worth your plumbers time with the other work so he's priced it to make it worth his while.

Loads of vids on Youtube on how to do it if it's just the ballcock, easy job.
