Stressed about college work placement

I’m due to have an interview for a job that is a part of my Business college placement but from what I’m aware it’s likely I will get the job.

It is in the offices of a midsize construction company and I’m feeling some major imposter syndrome. The role pays minimum wage and I’m worried that I won’t be good enough to justify them taking me in and paying me.

I’m also stressed about the dress code. I was told by the college that it was u likely I would get placement at this stage, but then a few days ago I got this interview. I don’t own any decent shirts or formal work attire. I’m hoping that since this is construction/transport that jeans and casual shirts/polo shirts will be sufficient with jeans etc.

I don’t know what’s wrong with me, I’m usually very confident and I’ve an extensive work history but for some reason I feel like I’m seizing up!

Anybody feel like calming my nerves? Haha

Fake it 'til you make it!

    It's what everybody else does.

Look at where it got Norma Foley.

In all seriousness though, if they're keen on hiring you (whether or not you're qualified) that decision's on them! As it's a minimum wage role, if the company is worth it's salt, you likely won't be given any task that's too far above your pay grade.

When there are challenges, just tell yourself you'll meet them as best you can when they arise.

Nowadays it's actually fairly good practice to reach out to a friendly colleague who can act as a mentor. A huge majority of companies will ensure that new staff have somebody that they can ask the "stupid" questions, because everybody will need a bit of hand-holding when they're finding their feet.

If you have any uncertainties about how to deliver correctly, rather than mess it up just reach out and enquire before doing something wrong that may require more work to fix.

Deep breaths; as you said, you have previous experience. Keep a cool head, you'll be great.

You are a college student - relax!!
The expectation of you will be zero. You'll probably be more of a nuisance than a help but if you show an enthusiastic attitude, it'll get you a long way.
From my own college placement, I remember everybody being helpful and welcoming. They'll appreciate it isn't easy on you.
    Good luck and enjoy it!

Really what they want from you is to enjoy the experience and to tell other people how great the company is; they really won't be expecting you to launch any big new ideas! Just enjoy it, ask lots of questions and get what you need from the placement. Best of luck!

Yeah, I'd also add now that I think about it - be enthusiastic, get involved in initiatives in the company. Even at lunch, don't be the guy who sits at his desk or looks at his phone for the hour. If people go walking/running, go with them.
If you are in a meeting, get involved, throw in an idea - no matter how bad the idea, they'll go easy on you!
One other thing, it is the easiest interview you'll ever get - if they like your attitude, you will probably have a job after you graduate. Your attitude can really help here.
But you'll probably be assigned to some recent grad to give you stuff to do - enjoy it!
