Anyone know is there a handy way to this ?
My house ,(and neighbours ) has vertical slate on the second story ,front and back , and it's cavity block beneath that , so I was thinking of seeing if I could slate over EWI , it's not a huge area ,cos it's just a small mid terrace house , (and for some reason the down stairs is actually cavity wall (not cavity block), and it's mainly window and doors anyway ..
Seeing if I can do the job on the cheap ,and (gradually diy it )

doable, once you sort out the fixings, it will act as a rain shield really, but wont be airtight I would leave a gap
To reduce thermal bridging you could say fix 2 by 2 battens vertically and insulate between them, then counter batten horizontally, and more insulation, or variants of this idea, ending up with horizontal battens for the slates

    Brilliant , thanks ,
When you said about counter battening to avoid thermal bridging ,do you mean 2 layers of insulation and battens , and then the slating batten ?

The counter batten means the second layer of battens go at right angles to the first layer so as to minimise the area of continuous wood from the wall out to the slates.
    Google the expression.
The project is very doable but will take time and care and attention, something a builder would not give it

Sounds like a possible for me to have a go out so ,
Especially with a relatively small amount to do ,( esp with the windows out of it )
