    Hi Guys

Looking to ask a question for a friend.

She was done for no NCT or tax last may. Couldnt get an appointment for NCT because of covid and couldnt afford the tax as she wasnt working and truth be told she was unwell at the time. So she paid the two fines but this morning received a letter about having three points added to her full license.

Is there any point appealing these three points as the NCT centers were closed?

Will three points make much of a difference to her insurance premium, she has full license for over 20 years and no issues/claims until the three points now.

Mods sorry if this was asked before please move if in the wrong forum.

    TIA
    CF

It's too late to appeal. By paying the ticket an admission was made.
The only way to appeal, was to not pay the ticket and take your chance in court.

    The horse has bolted.

In fairness, the lockdown wasn't until end March & the 3 month extension,so her NCT was probably out long before that ?. Don't think she'd have a case for an appeal at that stage,so she's probably better off to take the 3 points rather than 5 in court. 3 points isn't the end of the world for her.

Three points shouldn't make much difference to insurance and in some cases none at all, probably be a good idea to go through an insurance broker to check all the insurance companies, could end up with a cheaper premium,

Practically all the Insurers in Ireland do not appear to have an issue with 3 points.
They have access to the database containing Driver's points and can see why the points were given.
TBH, the worst thing about having 3 points is worrying about not getting another 3 !!

I think she got off lightly for having no tax or NCT. 3 points and a fine, madness.

There's no penalty points for having no Tax, it's NCT only.

You get a discount for not having any points from most companies but since how they reach your premium is opaque who knows if you do or not, especially when they can reduce it by significant amounts when you get a better quote!
