Just checking to see which I have. Have bought rat poison before and my boxes are full before Xmas, just wondering if anyone has any other advice. And unfortunately no a good cat or dog isn't available to me unfortunately!

Get a rat trap, don’t be laying poison if it’s avoidable.

Will get one if Woodies etc are open. Can I ask why you don't advise poison sachets? There are no pets in the surrounding gardens and we are fairly well blocked off.

There is building work going on in the house on other side of the wall. Just don't want rats in the back garden.

Agree, aside from risk to other animals if they die in the wrong spot they stink

Owls and other Birds of prey will pick up dead vermin if they die in the open and will also kill them.

    Birds particularly Owls get poisoned.

We used poison on the farm until I sadly found a poisoned owl one day, I was gutted, we have cats now who ironically are cheaper and more effective, amd great characters.

A rat trap is best. If there are other animals around like a neighbour's cat then you should put the trap in something that another animal can't access. If you want to go the poison route then you can buy bait stations in Woodies. Or else use a pipe. Not a fan of poison because of the danger to other animals.

Also never use poison indoors. When I climbed into my loft not long after buying the place I was faced with a fairly disgusting scene thanks to previous occupants just throwing loads of poison in there.

Rats get brave when the weather is cold so make sure there's no rubbish lying around and that bins are tightly shut.
