Bit confusing here, the other thread is open and there's a new one created by Beasty thats locked. Assume that was to be the new one, didn't see a mod create this one?

It wasn't mandated by law AFAIK, but a lot of takeaways were closed during March and April.

Supermac's only reopened again for drive through and delivery in a few outlets on April 22nd. McDonald's came after that, initially only drive through also.

Similar situation with takeaway pints - I really can't remember anyone near me with them available until it was early May.

Yeah speaking of McDonalds looks like they will be drive through only for next while. Saw a few restaurants and pubs that have been doing takeway choosing to close too. Could be combination of high cases plus expect lower sales in January anyway especially in current climate.

It's like the TV series Lost. It was exciting and freaky at first, now its just warbling on with cliffhangers of new strains, vaccines and new Lockdowns. And we know full well we'll be disappointed with the ending.

I gave up after a couple of series. Now if there was somewhere else I can give up to, I'd go.

Maybe the hatch is real and someone didn’t press the button to save the world and now we have Covid...

So seriously, no one is concerned about that SA strain though?
Matt Hancock said he's extremely worried, he has been working with his counterparts in S. Africa and the research they've done on the mutated strain shows that the structure has changed significantly and they don't think the current vaccines will do the job.
UK has closed off travel from SA, quarantined recent travellers, and said they found some of the new strain in the UK already. That's it's even more contagious than the new UK one. This came from their Health secretary.

I honestly can't understand why this news isn't everywhere right now.

There's not enough information out there

It may be significant but it may not be

Scientists are studying this right now

Luke O'Neill was quite confident that current vaccines will work on this variant on Ray D'Arcy earlier

Closing down take away food is nonsense. There are still lots of people working. I was working last week and forgot my lunch. Luckily there is a McDonald's around the corner. What do you do if you have no food with you, stand outside Tesco queueing up for a meal deal?

Yes it is very specialist but needs must sometimes

You can turn 'ordinary' beds into ICU beds if you have the ventilators etc

My brother is an ICU nurse in London

They're getting overwhelmed so they have 'regular' nurses doing stuff like turning patients over so the ICU trained nurse can look after the most serious cases and read the equipment etc

It may come to that here but you can certainly do it on a short term basis

An ICU nurse is highly qualified. They must complete a mandatory 2 year postgraduate course, after their nursing degree. Take with that the wealth of knowledge that they have acquired over their career. A non-ICU nurse looking after the ventilated patients would not be a desirable situation for anybody. The outcomes will be a lot worse with a standard nurse. Furthermore, an anaesthetist looks after the care of all those patients. The anaesthetist is both highly specialised in looking after the critically unwell and trained to perform the necessary procedures. Another form of doctor will not really suffice, if the outcomes are to be good.

The main hope now is that we are at the peak now and that there will be a steady decline in the coming fortnight, when people start to comply with the lockdown and the spread is reduced.

The health system is mighty in this country. We are lucky to have extremely qualified doctors and nurses. I take my hat off to them. I have faith that they will salvage a terrible situation. Let’s help them by curbing the spread.

They need to provide proper queuing outside though. There’s no point in having queues inside for anything and use the former floor space of the dining area to give staff space to work.

A lot of queuing can be done virtually too. Pick up when you get a call. Wait in car etc in meantime.

People are concerned alright, but there doesn't seem to be enough hard data out there at the moment to say anything for sure. I think we're just going to have to wait for more information.

They need to make queuing outside only. It gets so busy where I work even now with takeaway only and then to make it worse other members of staff are also in your space for the entire day.

Did McDonalds ever reopen their restaurants in Ireland? My local has been drive-through only since they reopened.

100% but as I said needs must over there and they could over here too

That's not high standard critical care but it's what they can do at the moment

I'm sure people would survive without food for a couple of hours. Im sure if they close takeaways it's because they people staying at home and not using takeaways as an excuse to leave the house

A lot of places could be run far safer. Virtual queues etc are a great idea but the reality is many places still cant get the basics right. Masks are still not even being worn all the time, or worn correctly and most staff taking them off when out of customers views. Zero ventilation or social distancing as well.

I suppose that's what to be expected with zero enforcement.

Takeaway pints are a complete red herring here. The people getting takeaway pints in huge numbers would be engaging in some other form of eejitry were there no takeaway pints. The people behaving responsibly and going into town for a pint or 2 to take a break from gazing at the walls on another Saturday night are not causing spread of the virus.

We should be encouraging people to be outdoors in general during this lockdown. Not congregating but getting fresh air, exercise and it's helpful rather than being in the sitting room again.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland might, if theres rats in the deep fat fryer

Matt Hancock is a politician, a member of the worst government in modern British history. He is a gormless prick with zero medical or scientific knowledge.

His government are desperate for any angle that will absolve them of blame for the state of their country.

Until a qualified and respected individual gives us cause for concern about any new variants, I will not be listening to any panic from the British government. Even Stephen Donnelly has his moments of panic and should be regarded with skepticism.

The World Health Organisation says China is refusing access to Wuhan to officials investigating the origins of the coronavirus pandemic.

    Talk about sleazy CCP scum!

It comes amid concerns over Beijing's early cover-up of the virus and the role the WHO played in alerting the world to the public health crisis.

Xi Jinping, the Lying Butcher of China will find ways to cover up any truth.

But those numbers are always looking back at a fortnightly period ending on Mondays. At the moment the lookback period for each LEA is 15/12/20 to 28/12/20. For each LEA it gives "Confirmed Cases in LEA" but it's not clear if that number is uptodate.

If this is about protecting our healthcare system, which I believe it is. They need to look at more than what they're looking at. What about manufacturing? What about banning those stupid plastic visors that some shop workers wear?

They need to do anything and everything if they are serious about this.

Relative working in large restaurant chain was told tonight, as of tomorrow I think they said, all click and collect services suspended too for non essential retail.
