    All,

Has anyone put in a counter sunk door mat in a timber floor? If so did you do it yourself or get someone to do it? Also any photos of what you did would be appreciated.

Known as a 'matwell' Not done one myself but I think they are generally done when the floor is being laid, are you looking to retrofit one?

I didn't do it, was done by previous owner.

You can see that it's a very simple job, the mat lies on the floorboards and the finished engineered floor is butted against the metal edging.

It works brilliantly and looks better than the pics.

    Key things to get right:

    - The edging.
    - The quality of the mat. I've looked around DIY shops recently and all the doormats are complete garbage.

We had one put in when we had our wood floor laid, but it'd be pretty easy to cut out a suitable sized section of flooring afterwards I'd imagine. You can get various metal trims to cover the cut edges.

Ours isn't a standard size, so when we replace it when it gets a bit scruffy we get a piece cut off a roll in a local carpet/flooring place and cut it to size.
