Hi. My 07 partner van started crunching into 4th and sometimes reverse gears a couple of weeks back. Today it's developed further. It doesn't go into gear at all. You can move the gearstick forwards, back and indeed any direction without any real resistance or feeling of gears engaging, regardless of whether the clutch in pressed or not. If I look in the engine bay I can see the gear stick arm moving. Garage is closed still, so will have to wait and see what's up and if it's worth repairing. Haven't a clue about transmission issues. What do you reckon is the likely problem, gearbox, dmf, clutch, etc?

Most likely gearbox, is it worth replacing such as second hand.
I'd the van going great otherwise and it's something you would be happy to keep running.

    1.9d or 1.6hdi ?

Not unknown for them to need gearbox oil changed/topped up over time.

Was it popping out of gear the odd time?

On the not going into gear issue the selector cables and selectors would be the first port of call after that it's going to take more invasive investigating.

Thanks. Going fine otherwise. Not used for heavy or hard work. 1.6hdi engine going good, serviced with correct oil regular. 300,00 kms. No idea if turbo was ever replaced, don't think so. Not due a timing belt for a good while.Tested till September.

No not popping out of gear. Just the crunching into gear.

Would low gearbox oil cause the current issue?

Is the selector issue something I can easily check?

Most likely a syncro problem on a PSA manual box - especially if it's just 4th - the addition of reverse could indicate a worn clutch. Most dealers/repairers would be able to give you a ballpark price to replace. Then you can decide if it's worth it.

No mention of pressing clutch pedal is it very firm or gone soft, have you checked brake fluid reservoir for level dropping.

Does pumping clutch pedal make a difference?

Clutch felt normal. Will try pumping the clutch Tomorrow.

    Would the brakes be related?

No I doubt it. I was more going down the route that the box might be gone completely from lack of oil but it doesn't sound like that tbh.

Are you able to select any gear at all now?

If the gear lever is moving without Resistance, take a look that the linkage has not become disconnected.
