Question on old house

Doing a bit of a repair job in an old house. It isn't a place that is of importance. There is no one living here but i use the house just for storing goods and a gym. The house is about 120 years old. Recently, water started to come in through one of the walls. Nothing major but was creeping in slowly where the chimney was. I did a DIY job on it. I patched it up with a bit of plaster first and then after a month i put layers of roof felt and dpc along the wall. I had loads of this left over after a house build. I then installed 2 x 1 timbers on the wall and sealed up using plaster board. I screwed this into the timber. A very cheap and easy fix. Everything has been fine since. I just wanted not to be able to see any dampness.

However I have one question. There was a new light switch put in my an electrican about 5 years ago on that very wall. I was afraid with the dampness at first coming in and flowing down the wall that it would make its way towards the light switch which would be dangerous. i put dpc all around the light switch. The way its done any potential dampness islocked and not make its may to the switch box on the wall.

Should that be ok or is there anything else i need to be thinking off? The light switch here is the same as one you would see used in a garage.

    Thanks

Water shouldn't suddenly start coming in through a wall, have you checked the roof for leaks, particularly around the chimney, there could be a problem with the chimney flashing, plaster or capping .

Sounds like the OP has just put a band-aid on it, without any attempt to dress the underlying issues because he didn't want to see no evil :)

did you check for a crack in the capping or a gap between it and the flue liner?
