So who knows if it will work out, but started planning the above trip, and trying to work our an itinerary to see the maximum over 10-12 days.
2 adults, who love outdoor life. Budget mid level. Travel will either be in July or August.
Flights are reasonable right now, even internal flights. As are Scandic hotel chain prices.
Would like to see 1-2 fjords, Bergen, and Trondheim. Flexible on Oslo.
To prevent backtracking, am thinking of getting the ferry from Bergen to Stavanger or vv. Also thinking of getting a night train to/from either of these cities to/from Oslo. But don't want to miss out on scenery - any recommendations which route to allocate to overnight leg?
Aside from that, completely open to suggestions - recommendation for a train pass to use (local or Interrail) also welcome?
Heard mix reviews on trip to Flam, so welcome thoughts also.
Went to Lillehammer about 10 years ago in Feb when drove up from Oslo. Broke my collar bone on the slopes, so got to experience local hospital first hand!
Thanks in advance for your thoughts/feedback.

You can do the NiN (Norway in a Nutshell) too, either as a package or on your own. Can be done both ways - Oslo to Bergen or Bergen to Oslo. Takes a full day and has a beautiful section on rails (Myrdal to Flam) a ferry ride around a fjord and a bus ride included (most of it is on the main train line between Bergen and Oslo). You can do an overnight on this leg to include Hardangerfjord (or Balestrand on the other side), check connections carefully.
