Lodging a complaint with a heating company

    Hey folks I was hoping to get some help in relation to formally logging a complaint with a service provider and trying to get our issues resolved

    We had a brand new boiler installed just before Christmas. Right from the start there were issues like the boiler not firing up, radiators not working etc.

    The service provider left us without hot water or heating over Christmas and is claiming the issues are with the system and "they're done with it"

    I want to know what steps to take to get this resolved. Does the CRU take on cases like this once you've exhausted all options with the original provider?

    Not really. If it’s a Gas Installation, RGII may investigate a complaint depending on the particular circumstances.

    If there is evidence of defective products or workmanship which are not being resolved by the supplier/installer, the small claims procedure is probably the most effective remedy, assuming it is within jurisdiction.

    However, are you entirely satisfied that his work or the boiler supplied by him is the sole cause of the symptoms being experienced?

    It appears from your post that this is contested. The installer may (rightly or wrongly) sight shortcomings in your existing installation such as a circulation problem, which he may believe he was not contracted to identify or repair.

    You should seek the advice of a solicitor, who would be best positioned to outline your options.

    Incidentally is it a gas boiler? How much did the replacement job cost? Why was it deemed necessary in the first instance? Has the installer any proposals whatsoever with regard to correcting whatever is wrong?
