Skoda Fabia 2009 remote unlocking doesn't work

Like the title says, I can't unlock the car using the remote. But the locking and boot release work just fine.

I've tried replacing the battery twice, using a new one each time. Both times, the unlocking worked with the new battery in place...but only once! Then, it stopped working just like before. The locking and boot release remained unaffected.

So, I've been unlocking the car using the manual key for a while. Don't mind it mostly, but gets awkward and annoying in some situations (e.g., while carrying a toddler throwing a tantrum :D).

Is there anything else I could try before I bring it to a car locksmith?

If it works even once the car is coded to key properly.
You say the doors are the only thing affected?
Is it all 4 door or just driver's door?

Yeah, it has been working without a problem since I bought the car (nearly two years ago). Only started having the issue about a month ago or so.

It's all 4 doors. They all unlock just fine when I use the manual key on the driver's door, just not with the remote.

May need to synchronise the keys again after replacing the batteries. Info I have from Autodata is to do the following inside a 1 minute window.
    1. Press the lock or unlock button on the key.
    2. Manually unlock vehicle using the key.

I’d say it doesn’t matter if locked or unlocked when you do the sequence as long as the steps are followed inside 1 minute.

Try and see if it works. Might need to do all sets of keys you have to get them all working.

Personally,I'd go a different path first before resyncing keys. Try to take the circuit board out of the key if it comes out easily. More likely to be a broken switch or solder joint if it works sometimes. It has a lot of use got in 11 years. Failing that see if the 2 buttons feel different eg.does one of them feel softer to press compared to the other.
