    Hi, apologies if this is the wrong place to post this. Would appreciate if it would be moved to somewhere more suited if it is, thanks in advanced.

    this has been bugging me the past few days.

    Can someone tell me the function of this pole here in Thurles. It says Shannon Foundry Limerick on the base of it. My guess would be it had something to do with the old gas works in the town, but other people reckon the gas pipes didn't run out along that road (Dublin Road) and can't answer my question.

    I'm just wondering why a person would want to know that when posting on a construction forum.
    Are they planning on doing something to it or near it? Or is it just idle curiosity?
