Leon Cupra

    Hi all,

I'm always reading this forum but almost never post!

I'm considering a Leon Cupra from a main Seat dealer. It's just out of manufacturers warranty a few months and the dealer's only offering a Mapfre warranty on it (12 months). As a main Seat dealer, I was surprised tbh. Is this becoming the norm now? What's the point buying from a main dealer if they're not going to stand over it themselves? But what could I reasonably expect instead - Would a main dealers 'in house' Warranty be any better? Do you think it likely says anything about the car itself, and do you know if main dealers ever offer different quality warranties (leaving aside duration) on their used cars that are out of manufacturer's warranty?

The car drives very well and the overall condition seems about right for the age and mileage. Fsh from Seat.

I'd be trading in my own car, which I also bought from them and I've never had a problem with it.

    Thanks for any advice!

I would say that it’s being sold on out of the ordinary circumstances

Ie it belongs to a staff member, it’s being sold on behalf of a customer, it was bought in not against another SEAT etc, there must be a reason why they’re not using the distributor backed used car warranty or not trying to push used car PCP on you.

    What year/mileage?

    What year/mileage?

    Most likely this one? https://www.carzone.ie/used-cars/seat/leon/fpa/202012127032955?journey=Search

OP, if you want to wait a few weeks, they'll have a 192 hatchback in also - or you could cut out the middle man and buy it directly from me. :pac: It has 18 months main dealer warranty remaining.

    Hi Colm, thanks for that.

It is just out of PCP as it happens and I am interested in PCP on it... So I can take it there is a distributer back used car warranty on Seat? Interesting why it's not on it if so...

Ha ha no it's not that one and thanks for the offer!

It’s odd that they aren’t putting a Seat warranty on it, maybe they’re selling it too for someone possibly? They’re fairly reliable though to be fair. Leaky water pump and clutches on manual ones can be weak.

    Any link to the car?

From McCoy's then. I bought my 162 ibiza cupra from them 2 years ago. Same story with the warranty. The people there are spot on and I go back to them for servicing etc. I got the water pump replaced under the third party warranty as well. Typical TSI problem, but all done no hassle.

    Just my experience/2 cents

Yes! Thank you. I would be trading my own Ibiza Cupra 171. I'd have much the same opinion. Presumably you bypassed them entirely when you made the warranrty claim or did they facilitate it for you? Did they fix it on their own premises?

Ah, you dont see many of the 1.8 ibiza cupras about. Good to know theres another around. I did end up commuting one morning behind a 2013 1.4 which I got some enjoyment from. Not going to miss the manual going to DSG no? Anyway, back on topic...

All facilitated by the ladies in the service department team, and carried out on site. All I did was mention a small loss in coolant over time and asked they checked the usual places underneath the car at the service. As I coudnt find the source from the top side. Came back with small leak at the water pump. They ordered the part, called me when it was in, and carried out the work.

Honestly, my experience of McCoys, I couldnt recommend them enough

    Okay thanks, good to know.

With a username like that too you don't happen to be connected to them somehow by any chance??!

Regardless, the ibiza cupra 1.8 is indeed a lovely car to own, its great fun. One of its party tricks is suprising the unaware in 'faster' cars (in their head) . Not sure I'd have as much fun in a Leon Cupra but still...

The auto is one of the plus points of the Leon tbh, which probably tells you where I am (in my head) in relation to what I want in a fast car next.

Another concern would be theft, but (debadaged at the back) its v like a regular one to the untrained eye. On balance they seem less prone to theft than a Golf R possibly wishful thinking - just one of a few other things to think about..

    Thanks again for your comments.

Fair question but no, my surname is not McCoy and I have no connection with them other than the car purchase. Not from Dublin either, so no connections up here.

Ye true, there is a lot of fun in the trolling going up motorway on ramps. I've considered debadging mine cause of the area I'm in but havnt done it as yet. But you are right, a debadged leon cupra draws less attention than the golf r it would seem. But its hit and miss. The first time I pulled up outside a local shop in the ibiza cupra, a bunch of young lads immediately recognised it and gave me some grief.

Whats there issue.....they should be dishing out grief to those who go round in bog standard leons sticking on cupra badges or bog standard Golfs with GTI badges lol

Not that kinda grief, the initial interaction was "oh cool", the following one was more a group of young lads thinking they're thugs, aggressive behaviour etc etc.

Funnily enough i went to a cars and coffee one morning and it got exactly zero attention. But in fairness, the quality of rare and awesome cars that day, it made sense.

Judging by Mccoys stock you've gone and committed to the upgrade. I keep an eye on cupra stock out of curiosity. Enjoy it. Looking forward to seeing the pics of the ibiza cupra ye traded in.
