Power-Up by Chris Kohler and Game Over David Sheff are a good place to start.

The Ultimate History of Video Games: From Pong to Pokemon - The Story Behind the Craze That Touched Our Lives and Changed the World by Steve Kent is a more comprehensive one and a good read.

Console Wars is a fun read as well.

Would also recommend the retronauts podcast.
