What are peoples views on doing a RCA pre purchase inspection on a 4 year old car buying from a main dealer up north, who is providing a 12 month full warranty. I was thinking I wouldn't bother as they will catch/cover issues, but am I being naive ?

I just assumed they did, didn't contact them yet.

Do people think is worth doing when buying from a main dealer?

You can educate yourself. Do some research online about the car, find out about any recalls and any trends that customers have seen. Honest John have a good summary of car histories.

I've often thought that a mechnics inspection will catch things that are relatively inexpensive to fix anyway.

Honestly i used an engineer who does insurance inspections last time i got a car up north but it was something fairly specialised at the time that really needed a good going over.

Its the main drawback of buying up north, a lack of car assessors.

If its a main dealer buy and 1-3 years old and still under warranty probably not necessary. Anything older and I wouldnt go without one.

    Not true.

Most inspections will find repairs on a car like paint that very view could spot by checking the thickness of the paint on panels.

Ive had a sale on a car fall through due to an unhealthy turbo from a 3 year old main dealer sale at the time found after an inspection.
