Ground floor apartment. How to leave the windows open without getting robbed?

I moved into a ground floor apartment.

In my previous house I was upstairs and always slept with the window open.

In this place, you can open it about 1cm then lock it again so there's a gap. Doesn't do anything. I would prefer to have it open some more.

Is there any anti-burglar device for open windows? Some sort of contraption that will allow me to open it about 5cm, but not allow a burglar to open it any further?

This is just for when I'm sleeping. If I'm heading to town or something I'll lock everything up.

I saw some child proof window cables on amazon, but you could just cut it with a set of pliers.

Get trickle vents fitted to the window frames, if that is possible.

You could get direct to outside ventilation fitted such as the trickle vents mentioned above or a wall vent. This will probably negatively impact the energy efficiency of the apartment especially if there is already a more sophisticated ventilation system in place but since you're leaving the window open anyway, it's not going to make any difference as long as you're there.

Any opening like that will be easily exploited in a few seconds, crowbar in and done, the multi-point locking mechanisms of newer windows require them to be closed to work, at most when open, you might get two points, with a child proof device, it's just one point held in by a couple of screws.
