I stayed there 3 years ago for 5 nights. The hotel is ridiculous. It’s HUGE. It’s also connected to another hotel (can’t think of the name of it). You could spend a 2 or 3 days just walking around the two hotels. Go to cirque de soleil “mystere”. Can’t remember which hotel it was on in.

I’ll just add, 1 week is a long time in Vegas if you’re not into the casino scene.

We are in a heap of places, can’t remember the names but the mini Effie tower place was lovely. Expensive as **** though.

Stayed there multiple times, lovely but it must be coming to the end of its Vegas life, they demolish and rebuild and rebrand very frequently. The Palazzo on the same site is newer and nicer IMO.

My tip for Vegas is spend as little time there as possible, definitely no more than 3 days. My ex husband loved the city so we were there many times but I'm not a fan. It gets tired very fast.

The spas in the Venetian and Palazzo are fabulous but very expensive. Show tickets very pricey for shortened shows (cut to 90 minutes so they can do 2 a night). Not sure what shows will be left with Cirque du Soleil in financial trouble and musicals in the risky category.

Loads of fantastic restaurants, high turnover though so hard to recommend.

I’d agree, 3 nights there is loads in my opinion.

My mrs said 7 ights is too long. First world problems. Anyway, booked it when prices were crazy cheap. Flights dublin - dallas - vegas return with AA, 7 nights in venetian for €550 each. Nobody still believes the price i got it for.

I'll play one poker tournament, do some shopping. Not arsed with Dam as mrs said she thought it was over priced and a bit boring. Trying to find somewhere to do a track day in a sports car.

Bringing roughly $5k. Not expecting to bring much change home

    Venetian is OK. Really nice.

Remember about "Vegas sandwich" (driving license, $bill, credit card)

Last time $20 gave me really nice room upgrade located in tower + drinks voucher that I could use in the casino.

On the side note I prefer Bellagio. My room with fountain view was epic.

Does that actually work? Do you need to be discreet?

    Worked as a charm.

    Vegas is all about tips.

Just give it to the concierge. He/She will as you is you need a change.
Just say you are OK. Then follow up with the question if they have any complementary upgrades.

Firstly, if you are traveling.... enjoy, bring as much money as you can afford to loose and a little extra for food/drink.

Vegas itself can be quite overwhelming, it can take an hour to simply walk across to the hotel across the street.

There is plenty to do to keep you both entertained, if funds allow, a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon with a skywalk (if my memory is correct $140per person) ... a helicopter ride over the strip of Vegas, a limo ride down the strip.

A visit to the old town, a drive out to the Vegas sign, a visit to one of the wedding chapels, there’s a gun range for something different, the miracle mile (shopping center, where the ceiling is also part of the experience).

Not to mention gambling or eating !! Both of which can rob you of multiple hours.

I would recommend visiting the belaggio for the buffet (I think it’s €45per person) all you can eat at a fraction of the price of the restaurants and the same food.
As regards gambling, if you have time outside of your poker tournament and enjoy the simpler games, try to find somewhere that plays casino wars .... no thinking, simple game of highest card wins.

Drinks are free when you are gambling, there are also very concept of time when you are in Vegas.

Best of luck with the poker and the Vegas experience.

Edit: the Eiffel Tower hotel mentioned above is called Paris Paris , it’s opposite the bellagio, and sits on top of the miracle mile shopping center.

Thanks for this and will try that Bellagio buffet as you are not the first to mention it. Mrs wants to do plenty of shopping and go to one of the mall type places for a day. I'll play poker then. I'll try the gun range actually. I'll google whee to find it

You do realise there is currently a presential proclamation banning travel from Ireland unless you are a citizen / green card holder etc. I’m sure it’s on Biden’s list to repeal but he’ll also have a lot of other tasks in hand.

Watch out for the resort fees. Usually not included in the initial price to make the hotel seem cheaper, but they'll sting you with them at the desk in the hotel. $50 or thereabouts a night so it'll cost you $350 for the week on top of what you've already paid.

Hotel is nice, every room is a suite, so three TVs per room, one in front of the bed, one in the lounge area and one in the loo. Rooms can be a bit dated though due to the age of the hotel.

+1 on the Bellagio buffet. Grand Lux Cafe in the Venetian itself is nice also.

Pool area at the Palazzo is nicer than the pool area at the Venetian. You will have access to both.

Doubt there will be any significant travel restrictions to worry about by May.

    Enjoy.

For track driving in multiple models of supercars (Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Porche, McClaren, Ford, Audi) my partner and I went to Exotics Racing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway about 20 minutes out of town next to Nellis Air Force Base. Had a package of two cars prebooked but added more on when we got there and saw all the cars (!!!!) plus did a hot lap with a racing driver in a corvette. Best 40th present ever!!!! We got a taxi out and a limo back but there is a shuttle bus to the track leaving from Aria. Exoticsracing dot com

Cheers, already checked them out and have my eye on a Ferrari i'd like to drive. Reasonable enough prices too.

Because of the delay in the NHL season start dates, you'll be able to go and see the Vegas Golden Knights most likely, if you're into sport.

I'm a regular Vegas goer - I disagree about 3 nights being plenty, especially because you will probably be arriving late on your first day. 4-5 nights probably the ideal - you do need an off day, ie not much alcohol and not up too late if you are going to be there for 7 nights as you will be in bits by day 5.

You could literally spend a whole day walking up and down the strip and getting lost in different hotels. The Strip is far longer than you would think if you haven't been.

    A few pointers -
    1. The temperature will probably be 30-40 degrees when you go so you will be able to have a pool day if you wanted. Las Vegas have some incredible pools. I would highly recommend this, chilling out over there at the pool under the sun with a few drinks is amazing
    2. I recommend going to the top of the Stratosphere and having a drink or two while taking in the views, it's very relaxing.
    3. Plenty of shows to go see, though I'm not sure which will be in operation next year. Absinthe is very good - but it's very on the edge too and they get lots of audience participation. The Beatles - Love is another I'd highly recommend but not sure what the story is with Cirque shows.
    4. The outlets aren't as good as you'd think, it's not worth a whole day and you'd be better off going to the outlets for 3-4 hours and if you wanted more shopping then the Strip is littered with shops. Many hotels basically have their own massive shopping district inside.
    5. Battlefield Vegas are a recommended shooting range crew. Used them, can vouch.
    6. The dining options in Las Vegas are like nothing else in the world. You have your pick of the best diner style takeout places like In-n-Out, Shake Shack etc but also have incredible top tier restaurants. I recommend Gordon Ramsey steak, Cut, Joel Roubichon but you'll end up dropping $200+ per person. Also Tacos-el-Gordo are a highly popular taco shop which might be one of the nicest things I've ever eaten. Mon Ami Gabi at Paris, Eggslut in Cosmo, Peppermill on the strip and also Hash House a Go Go at the Linq for breakfast.
    7. Some people love downtown but I'm not a massive fan. If it's your first time then it is worth taking a trip downtown for a few hours.
    8. Tip everybody. The more you tip the faster you get comp drinks while gambling and the better drink they'll give you. If you tip the receptionist and ask if he can do anything for you at worst he will try to hook you up with a strip view.
The Miracle Mile is not in Paris, it's at Planet Hollywood which is beside Paris - though beside does not mean much in Las Vegas as it's so big.

Take a trip out to Death Valley in California. The Mojave Desert is beautiful in its own way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,050 ✭✭✭Cosmo Kramer

It was 120F when I went to Death Valley in late May a few years ago. Was an experience in itself just being outside in that level of heat, but the area is well worth a trip regardless.

Do the Grand Canyon if you get a chance to.

We were in Vegas for my wife's birthday and I booked a trip as a surprise: limo, lunch at the bottom of the canyon, tour of the strip on the way back - a great afternoon out despite the 49 deg C heat at the bottom of the canyon (31st of July).

Make sure you bribe the receptionist for an upgrade. It's widespread there and will 100% work.
