I've named my newborn son Ferdia. Ancient Irish, I love it. Fear Dia, "Man of God".

His full Irish name is Feardiadh Ua Concobhuair.

O'Connors, the last of the High Kings.

We went through all the baby names books.

But one night myself and Threase read the Tain with Cucullain and Ferdia.

We were praying for a boy after that.

I've an old school/football acquaintance back home named Ferdia. Good lad. Good name.

Our young 'un born 3 weeks ago goes by Cillian. Possibly the easiest Irish name possible that the natives over here shouldn't mess up. . . .nope, all her work mates were pronouncing it "S" - illian

Like you, I'd prefer Ferdia to Cucullain myself.
The best of luck to you!

Lovely name. That book nearly killed me in college though, hadn't a clue what was going on due to not listening in Irish class in school. Congrats!

    Fuppin' 'ell.

What's wrong with Paul or Mike?

    Or Kieran?

'High kings' get thumped in the playground. Or they will do if we still have that when he grows up.
    I'd reconsider.

Great name for a new arrival to the family. As long as you walk him every day and get him neutered when he's bit older.

He won't be touched in any playground.

If anybody does abuse him for his name, I'll make them disappear.

congrats, people name their kids whatever they want. Personally I have an extremely unusual nome which was the bane of my life as a child and teenager, and the source of relentless bullying even from teachers. Hence my kids have plain, simple common names.

I've never met one full stop. In fact i've only ever heard of one Ferdia McAnna - i think he was a journalist used to write for the evening herald, i'm not quite sure, i just know his name.

Has a nice ring to it though!

Congratulations OP -it's nice to hear some good news for a change:D

That name gives him a free pardon to wear girls skinny jeans.

The Ferdia Mac Anna mentioned earlier is from Howth in Dublin.
His father is the late Tomás Mac Anna, former playwright and artistic director of the Abbey Theatre in Dublin.

Makes sense given the town is named after Ferdia himself
