Guys doing a valet on my car f**ked it up! ABS TRC lights on '07 avensis

Brought my 07 diesel Avensis to guys for a valet. They broke rear light lens so had to replace both (new one didn't match old). Got the car home and the ABS/TRC and brake lights are on as soon as I hit the brake. I can feel ABS kicking in on brake pedal.

Any ideas? I tried disconnecting battery and reconnecting. Lights don't come on until I use the brake. Water in a sensor maybe?

Getting it cleaned to sell it :mad::mad:

Are these guys professionals? In that case they have insurance against things like this.
A normal clean won't cause ABS to kick in. It's usually the opposite.

Not sure about professional. Bunch of brazilian lads. Highly doubt they have any insurance, or even money.

I'm assuming its most likely abs sensor/connection/wheel related due to problem arising after valet. Guessing diagnostic would just give a broad error.

Did they powerwash engine bay? Maybe lift the plug off the ABS pump to look for signs of water

Nope. Didn't open the bonnet. It's hardly anything related to switching rear tail light lenses?

Could potentially be a random short circuit causing it.

Could a wheel sensor that is not giving an impulse, so the car thinks no rotation of the wheel, so pulses the brakes. But that's strange too, as the ECU should notice this during normal driving, and turn off the ABS entirely.

Auto electrician, or main dealer (who has the, familiarity, software and equipment to diagnose.

Brake lights not working can trigger ABS warning on some cars. Basically if the stop lamps are not working the ABS light comes on. I presume this is to do with warning cars behind you are about to stop extra fast due to ABS. You replacing lights on rear might have triggered it but I would have assumed getting lights working would reset error. Did you install LED as this can also cause it to think lamp is gone?

Seatbelt locked, unlocked sensors have wiring which can be damaged during valet along with passenger present weight sensor on seat. (None on driver seat, they assume driver present!)

Ideally you need to read fault code but most cheap code readers don't cover ABS module. It could be wheel rotation sensors, crash shock sensors on chassis, airbag wiring, low 12v battery, basically anything that the ABS system self checks and is not happy. An orange light vs a red light can signify different severity. Check brake lights work and all connections under seats and at belt buckle. Try disconnecting battery for 15 minutes after.

Were you there the whole time? I'm thinking they might have swopped your ABS unit for a dodgy one:mad:.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

 Boards.ie is a treasure trove of wild assumptions ..

Start with disconnecting the rear lamp that was fitted and reset the 12v battery. You mention the lamp was incorrect in a post . Incorrect wiring / part compatibility or even a bulb fitted wrongly can cause a reversed electrical feed through the brake switch to the ABS ECU .

If that doesn't cure , get the ABS ECU trouble codes read through the OBD port and go from there. You maybe able to read the flash codes by jumping pins in on the OBD port which will need a googling
