07 BMW 320, haven’t been driving her much since I started working from home in March, down to the shop and back, couple miles a day max, the DPF light has started to come on, would this be because she’s not getting a good driving? If I gave her sally for a good hour one day would that sort it?

Throw some DPF cleaner in with the diesel and give it a blast on the motorway, 120 if possible in 4th or 5th gear

Just drive it somewhere. If the DPF is working correctly it will regen without the need to thrash it or the likes.

Also make sure you have at least 1/4 tank of diesel in the tank or you'll be driving the car hard for nothing, DPF won't start regeneration if there's not a minimum amount of fuel in the tank, ask me how I know lol

Known issue on the 3 series. Had mine pulled out and error deleted so will not be an issue again, this is what people do. Costs around the region of €300. Replacing it will leave a bigger dent in the pocket.

My E90 regens with less than 10 liters in the tank.

I've come very close to doing this at times as mine regens quite frequently and only during city driving but I've had it checked and told that it's fine with backpressue figures well below the limits.

I did mine the first time it came on. Just wanted it out and done with, people recommend just getting it done when you purchase the car to get the hassle out of the way!

When the DPF goes completely is it a big problem ?

Apparently if it gets completely blocked it can do some real damage yes, but I think it takes a while from when the light first comes on to when it can do damage, but I wouldn't really go on a long journey with it on without getting it looked at just to be on the safe side.

There's some conflicting info out there about it but I would recommend whipping it out when you can.

Is it not checked for at the NCT or CVRT?

You mean if you remove it? No it's not an issue at all, I NCT'd mine just last week and no issues with emissions or anything.

DPF gets clogged because too much diesel is injected into the cylinders. This typically happen when pressurised air escapes the intake manifold after being measured by mass sensor. But one injector might be leaking or mass sensor faulty as well.

To kill DPF in a 100% car by driving mainly short distances would be an achievement.

Yes, it is. The exhaust gases have nowhere to go, so they will try to espace different ways. Easiest are the seals in the turbocharger.

Personally I would say that the dpf is showed up on it due to the mileage. This is the same across the bmw range on mileage. You would have to get it plugged on to be sure. But if it isn’t down on power you need to find someone that knows there way around bmw and also knows there way around the bmw Ista + system. I’m going to say that it just needs to be plugged on to bmw Ista and tell the car that it’s had a new dpf fitted. This is provided that it’s not down on power and shii out wing up due to the mileage on the car. Basically it shows up because like your air filter and oil filter the dpf has a mileage life.

Wouldn't the pressure differential sensor normally put the car into limp mode long before that happens?

This. Had it recently on a 2010 e90 with over 200k miles on it. Had codes 452A and 4D4A. Subsequently discovered that these warnings begin to appear around the 250,000kms mark or 150k miles. After checking back pressure and verifying it wasn’t broken up or anything and adding DPF cleaner, reset the counter using a diagnostic tool and it’s all sorted since. Hope it helps.
