    Hello all

We are thinking of buying in moate and have a few questions

What is the area like, how safe is it?

Is it well connected to Dublin by bus?

Some ads state cable TV and broadband is available but I can see it when searching virgin media website

    Thank you in advance

Moate is a great little town. Only 8-10 minutes from Athlone. Some great value there. Good community spirit. There is an estate that has a less than savoury element to it. But apart from that all good. Not sure about the connections to Dublin but Clara is only 5-10 minutes drive away. Same as Athlone for train stations. And there is a number of buses that stops in moate on the Galway Dublin route.

Thank you. Any idea on broadband/cable TV availability?

Also could you pm me this estate you speak of :)

Great little town, has the old rail trail passing through it. Great community spirit and the Joyce family - Irelands most most workshy family live 3 miles out the Athlone road, can't miss the house, always men in string vests and fat women in the garden.

I'm well aware of where big Joe Joyce lives!

The brother did electrical work on the house for them. Will say they had no problem paying when asked. Sounds that way.

As for Moate, is a grand auld spot.

It’s fine . Mount temple area is lovely. Like Athlone (Which is reached within 30 minutes whether by car or bike) it’s close to everything especially the buses (though not every single BUs eireann Dublin -Galway stops at Moate ie the x20, but the No20 does stop at Moate)

Back in the day (boom years); the pubs were a great spot (haven’t drank there in years)

Still some really nice pubs there.
We would have a few drinks regularly after games and would frequent a good few pubs. Egan's and the Gap are great spots. .

Egans is possibly the best pub in the world

A brilliant pub - if he ever gets to open again :(

Eamonn Coughlans, a little further down the street, has the best Guinness in the world :p

Dun na Sí is a fantastic amenity, as is Tuar Ard.
