    Hello,
Looking at purchasing a lift for home workshop.

What brands are recommended and sellers?

What are the benefits of an overhead lift vs the one with rail on the floor running between pillars.

I'm assuming that when you say "overhead lift vs the one with rail on the floor running between pillars" you mean the difference between a two and four post lift.

I have a two post lift, you can't beat it for access under the car, a four post won't give you the same access but could be safer for engine swaps where you're disturbing the balance of the car on the lift.

I have heard good things about PJFallon but in saying that I have never dealt with them I bought my lift of Donedeal second hand.

The other things to take into account when getting the lift are:
    • The floor the lift will be bolted to it needs to be strong enough (strength and depth of concrete) to support the lift fully loaded.
    • Installing the lift. If you're doing it yourself you'll need help, a decent sds drill, hoover to clean out the holes in the floor and adding chemical anchor to rawlplugs isn't a bad idea either

I have dealt with PJ Fallon within the last 12+ months for my scissor lift.

It was a 3 month old lift originally bought from them, and traded in for a bigger one. I got a great deal on it. They set it up for me in the workshop to view before i purchased it.

Its an exceptional piece of kit, sorry I did not buy one 20 years ago. I used to shudder at some jobs to be done with no lift. Now I dont care what it is to do.
Press of a button puts the car where I want it.
And this lift is exceptionally high when elevated , the fastback on it in the picture is not all the way up, but the top of the red plate is already 6' off the ground, and will go probably 6" higher.

Originally I was concerned about no mechanical safety locks, and I queried this. Fallons told me the extra 2 ram circuit is the back up safety and its equipped with parachute valves like a cherry picker. And its always in use, and never had a problem so far.
Plus their massive factory is packed with spare parts, so you will never be stuck.
I am a very happy owner of this scissor lift

We bought a 2 post lift from Howdens (https://www.howdentools.com/car-lifts/c-65.html).
Very happy with it so far. 4t with manual locks. Great access and simple to use. However, as noted above, you need to have the balance right if you adding/removing large parts.
Would be lost without it now.
