Thats a pity, nothing like the fun of skating outdoors. Great excercise havnt done it in awhile, always found most rinks in Ireland too small and indoors though.

If they were open-air people would destroy them. Also, we don't have great winters for them not to be covered

That reminds of the day dolphins barn went up in flames, was passing on a bus when the window at the front up top exploded. Myself and bus driver stopped at the traffic and called it in. Shame many hours of fun there, but smaller than the ones in the Uk.
We had one nearby every year outdoors around Christmas never a problem, think it didnt make enough money.

Each to their own. Could always have a rink outdoors with a bar alongside. ;)

But those who want to join us on the ice will have to be breathalised first.

How would they work in the rain?

Dont skate in heavy rain especially not on lake/natural ice. There are syntetic rinks. And all weather artifical ones. And staff who maintain and check them after wind/rain/snow/debris.

New york city had 5 outdoor rinks till march each year. The water has to be kept frozen and no skating while raining. Zamboni well come in after the rain clean up the water and resurface the rink again

Cena do you skate often, I really miss it due to health issues. Loved the freedom of it, felt so natural... took to it like a duck to water even thought about take it up professional and getting trained at one time but that would have meant moving abroad.

I do. I'm a hockey player. Still waiting on the new season to start.
Looking unlikely it well be going ahead.

awwh just watched one of their videos, the squeals of delight remind me of the first time... and the woman in pink reminded me of a family member, who inched their way like that the whole hour. Brillant.

Do your health issues prevent you from skating completely? There are wheeled skating options. It's not the exact same as ice skating but artistic quad and inline skating is largely similar to ice-figure skating, if that's the type of skating you enjoy and there are clubs/lessons available throughout the year (not during these restrictions obviously) in both disciplines in Dublin. And there are groups that practice freestyle/slalom or just general skating around too.
