Couch 2 5k for fatties

Hi all. Many moons ago I was super fit. Now I'm super fat and haven't done any exercise but walking and a bit of swimming in years.

I'm looking just to increase fitness and would like to start with Couch 2 5k. Will introduce bodyweight exercises too.

My question is if anyone can recommend an app particularly for fatties with a low baseline of fitness?

Also tips from former fatties welcome. :pac:

PS Don't wanna discuss diet. That's sorted.

Pretty much all C25k programmes are the same, they assume a baseline of pretty much zero fitness. Clue is in the name, really!

I used Boogie Shoes Couch to 5k on Podkicker, really enjoyed it.

Join a running club. It will make it a lot easier to get out during the dark cold months.

Little and often is your best bet.
Depending on how you find things. Start off with just a 10/15 min walk every day and build up from there. There is no magic outside of consistency. Dont ever over do any one day to the extent that you cant do something the next day.
You can progress this as you go along by adding in a few short sections of jogging instead of walking. Listen to your body. Its the only thing that won't tell you lies ;)

Beginner running groups can’t go out at the moment due to the lockdown.

But this is good advice after the lockdown. Look for Fit For Life or Men on the Move for beginner running groups in your area.

The app I used was called C25K 5km trainer . Zombies run is another popular one which has a zombies storyline on top of the running/walking segments.

I was incredibly unfit when I did it the first time, I'd say any app for it would be fine and repeat a week if you need to

Firstly, why are you labelling yourself as a "fattie"?

Not a great mindset to start any fitness journey or just in general for your own confidence?

Since you said you have your diet sorted, which is the most important thing regarding fat loss. I would suggest you just put on a comfortable pair of trainers and start with walking/light jog for one hour.

You want to get the heart and lungs working. You want to feel some physical demand on the body (heavy breathing etc) Build your level of fitness up bit by bit. Maybe one hour might too long and you can only manage 30 -45 mins of walking/jogging at the start and that's fine.

Once you're enjoying the process of getting fitter, being consistent and progressing that's all that matters.

Good luck on your journey. :)

Because I am fat. It's just a description, it doesn't bother me. I've got great confidence!

And I'm not aiming for fat loss, just improved fitness.

Thanks so much for all the advice. Much appreciated!

Would you prefer he refer to himself as 'big-boned' ?

To be fair, I think they were coming at it from the point of view of not having such a negative mindset because it can be counter productive if you're trying to turn things around.
