Can someone explain to me how does contributions to Radio work, do they get paid. Lets say its some talk show, maybe news at 1 or a morning show. Lets say Dr X comes on and talks about what will happen Covid. Does Dr X get paid ?
Fungie goes missing and then they roll out some Dolphin expert - Does he get paid ?

Very rare that contributers get paid now.

It's possible a few in Newstalk or Radio 1 do, to some extent, but would depend on the contribution.

Say a few years ago Dr. Ciara Kelly used to contribute to Geroge Hooks show, it's quite possible she was paid as she was on each week, but the one off ones probably dont.
