Looking for an upgrade / upsize to a picasso.
May purchase a caravan in the future so possibly looking at the SUV route.

Could stretch to maybe 25k for newer car but trying to get as much bang for buck.
The Seat Tarroca and Skoda Kodiac look nice but probably above budget.
Mitsubishi Outlander is possibly within range.
If I stay with the MPV - S Max or Galaxy or Alhambra.
Looking for any comparisons/pros/cons between the above or alternatives
    Thank you

Its a bit of a buyers market at the moment as regards getting a great deal, but on the flip side, stock choice is a bit below par.

On your budget I think you'd have no problem getting a three year old Kodiaq TDI and that would be my choice in your shoes. A lot of them are DSG auto but maybe look for manual if you're planning to do some towing, though they will be rare.

Maybe look up a dealer that specialises in UK import to order, specification and price may be marginally better, but price in a good warranty.

You’d really want to see what is practical for your family’s needs. I’ve not seen the interior of a kodiaq, but did look into the outlander. It is not a 7 seater. The middle seat in the second row is narrower than an a4 page on its short side!
I have a sharan, 2.0 tdi and it’s full size seats, sliding back doors, kids can be loaded from one side and walk through to the other. 2 full seats in the back too, easy to put up and down, and a cavernous boot. It’s a beast on the road and has plenty of poke so good and safe when overtaking.
Alhambra is very similar, but they seem to cost more second hand. You’ll get more bells and whistles on an Alhambra than a Sharan, but as a former owner of many seats, I have to say, VW does seem to be better in build quality.

Good luck with the search, as I said make sure what you buy suits your families day to day needs.

Was in this same decision making process some months back and best bang for buck is probably the MPV route.

7 seater jeeps are in demand as alternatives to MPV's so come with a premium. Also as mentioned by earlier poster the seating is still better in a good MPV like a Sharon or S-max with individual seats and more isofix points if thats what you need. If you dont need the full size seats but i'm guessing you do as you already noted the small middle seat in the Outlander then the best 7 seated jeep I found was the Peugeot 5008 which has 3 full size isofix seats across the middle row but might be out of your budget however.

I ended up going with the Kodiaq 7 seater and can get the 3 seats across the middle row if belted in and not using isofix points but to be honest my oldest jumps into the 3rd row seat all the time which means I only have 2 kids in the middle row 90% of the time. I went Kodiaq over the 5008 as I preferred the build and drive over the Peugeot but it was a tough call between them, I would of been happy in either.

    We picked up a 2017 S-Max 2wks ago, the 150bhp titanium version.
I'm "into" cars but family lifestyle forced selling my Octavia VRS. I find the S-Max very engaging to drive. May sound strange but they do drive and handle very nicely. At the same time they are great for distance driving, the car I collected I drove 5hrs home and was very fresh after the journey.

It has buckets of space and you will get 3No. car seats in the middle row as middle row has 3No. independent seats.

I feel MPV are a better family choice but most people want SUV, hence their prices are higher.
Test drive a SUV and MPV and figure out suits you best.

If thinking of caravan then you need to be careful on weights. Ideally you want to stay below the 3500kg between the car and the caravan. Also you need something with decent pulling power so you are not burning loads of fuel.

Good website to check if here: vhttp://www.towingcapacity.co.uk

You will find Skoda seem to win pulling car of the year a lot from caravan magazine. That because they are cheap and have a good engine in them. At end of day it is a VW engine so you can buy the VW version if you prefer more comfort and get the same pulling power. A lot of the <PV have terrible pulling power. So you need to be careful on them.

When you mention Outlander are you talkign about diesel or PHEV? if PHEV be careful as they are very heavy so unless you plan on getting a trailer license you will struggle to get a caravan under the limit.

Plus, the PHEV only has five seats!
