People 'doing' things

What's the story with people 'doing' things these days? Seems Americans use these terms a lot, but I see it creeping in here too. Relating to travel:

'Last year we did Vietnam. We're thinking of doing Thailand next year'.

And even worse, relating to food:

'Yeah I think I'll do the spaghetti', or 'Yeah I think I could do the cheeseburger'.

    What?!

Yes I was in the USA around this time 3 years ago and people were saying "I'll do the wings" or "I'll do the open tuna fish sandwich" and I was aghast at this manner of speaking

Glad I'm not alone. Saw someone in the Coronavirus forum saying they're not sure if 'doing' Valencia (spain) is worth the risk. Wonder what the citizens of Valencia think

    Thou hast undone our mother!

Villain, I have done thy mother!

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!
