    Hey folks,
I’m currently homeless and staying in a hostel so I have no fixed address for post.
My problem is I was asked to produce insurance in the Garda station as I was driving my partners car and he wanted to check that I was actually insured.which I did and never thought anymore about it.
That is until my friend informs me it’s quite common to still receive summons in the post even though insurance was produced as sometimes they do not enter into the system?

Whilst producing my insurance and licence I informed the Garda that my licence address isn’t my current one and that I’m homeless and told him where my hostel is.

I am now crapping myself thinking that I could get a summons to an address I no longer live at and by not turning up at court I would have a huge **** storm coming my way.

Do they send summons to the address on the licence? And would it need to be signed for by the person? Also Would it be worth popping back into the station to check if it was recorded on the System.

    Thanks for reading.

I think your friend is wrong to say “quite common”, while there were flaws in these systems initially, my experience is that they are now pretty robust.

The act requires a certificate to be produced by the Garda in charge at the station where the document(s) were produced which is then added to the pulse record. If you go back to the station where you produced, they may be prepared to print this for you, or at the least provide out with a less formal receipt of having produced the document.

Regarding the service of summons, this is generally done in person by a member of the Garda. It can also be done my registered post, but in this case, such service would fail if they send it to an incorrect address.

It is entirely possible that your hostel details that you provided when you produced were also added to the pulse entry.

Go back to the station and enquire if your worried, but I wouldn’t be. Hope your difficulties are soon resolved and you get back on track.

    Load of bollox.

It would be rare for that to happen due to the way its recorded.

Your friend is just making it up or passing drunk pub talk on.

Happened to me once and I remember it haopening to the wife years ago. Best bet is call to the station and adk to speak to the officer.
If its already gone through normally you just produce on the day in court and it gets struck out. (Cancelled)

Guards normally are decent enough if you have a good attitude and are on the side of law and order. Fairly reasonable.

did you get a receipt showing you produced your insurance? In any case all you have to worry about is being arrested on foot of a bench warrant for not paying the fine. You won't be detained for long in any case manager be able to have the conviction set aside provided you were insured at the time. You may also find you have been banned from driving that you will have to refrain from driving until you get the conviction set aside.

Thank you all for the reply’s.
To the last poster, no I did not get a receipt.
That’s what I’m afraid of, being banned from driving and not knowing about it. Jesus I would have to be very unlucky for all that to happen due to a clerical error.

I would imagine if this happened ,it could be all sorted by proving that I am insured And that I was in emergency accommodation when the summons was sent out?

It could be sorted out all right, but, you would be banned from driving during the time it would take to sorted out. Furthermore you might spend some time in custody.
