Hi, full renovation. Doing alot of work ourselves. Before I ask my engineer. I'm trying to understand myself. windows being put in during week and I've to insulate around the cavities. Question is with insulation does it matter which direction the foil is facing? Is to face the ope or face the block? Will plug any gaps with expanding foam.

Putting a new door where a window used to be. What should I have above and below the door it's solid concrete both sides

They are. I'm wondering which direction it faces. Just so I can amend if needed before engineer calls and corrects me.

more important than any insulation.. is there a vertical DPC going in?

can you give us an idea of the construction of the wall... is it 100mm block - 50mm cavity - 100mm block?

    100mm inside and outside X 100m cavity

not in the last two pics... and i wasnt sure if the first two pics were the OPs or just examples of what they are asking.

if there is no DPC i wouldnt be facing the foil outwards as the foam is guaranteed to get wet and will break down over time.

if there is a DPC its less of an issue.

Having the foil face outwards means you can cut the board to suit a tight friction fit... facing the foam out will be a lot looser irrespective of an expanding foam.

ive seen it done both ways, and foil outwards is best (again, once theres vertical DPC)

Just comfirmed it. Dpc at sides and top with the foil facing the block where possible. Dpc along the outer block. Can't do anything with last two pics as there is no cavity. I just found it curious there was no real standard when I searched online
