17k for yours, leaves 50k. Small discount, maybe 39.5 / 39k to change.

Newer model E class are coming down in price. Low 20s is about the value on a trade in. There's a plenty around for around the 25k mark from dealers.

Quick search on done deal and Carzone shows price for a 162 AMG at around 26-29

Just to add your driving a merc so you know what I’m talking about I work in a place and it’s mainly bmw merc and Land Rover. To be fair we get the odd q7 in and they are hard on maintence as in it’s front disks every set of pads the eat front pads there’s afew bits but also think of the maintenance costs

Did you not want to keep everyone guessing for a bit longer?

I would have said 35 to 37k sounds about right as long as the Audi is approved used with full warranty.

Would be a bit crazy to pay 37k to go up 2 years in my opinion. OK the q7 is dearer than an e class but only because its an suv. And I say this as an Audi fan. Its basically the suv version of the a6 and it won't have the interior the 2018 a6 has either, it will be the older one.
Unless you need the space and need 7 seats and really don't need the money this would be a bonkers thing to do.

Yep. The more I’m thinking on it, I’m cooling on the idea. We’ve a touran for the kids if we go anywhere. Besides the huge cost to change, I’m thinking car tax and diesel guzzling which will inevitably increase over the next few budgets.
When I bought the merc 3 years ago it was with the intention of it being my last diesel car until were ‘forced’ to go electric anyway. Plus it’s in great nick with low mileage.

I know I might be way off the mark brand wise here but would you ever consider the RAV4 ? Hybrid and the new model starts at 40k. I'd say you could get a decent car for the price of that Q7 you were looking at.

I'm guessing by the op's post above yours the 7 seats is needed.

The Rav4 isn't even in the same class as the Q7. Might as well drop the Rav4 and go with a Dacia Duster for the same reasons.

Why not hold onto what you have for a while longer? There will be a lot of new electric cars coming to market in the next year or two.

Q7 just oozes class, there are many 10+ year old Q7s on the road that still look like new.

They symbolized the Celtic Tiger to a tee. Every property developer had one and then they couldn't be given away when the bust came.

I had been thinking about an older q7 as an option as would like a 7 seater option and lots of boot space ... I take it they are very expensive though to keep maintained? What kind of money would it be for their discs to be replaced if it’s a regular issue I wonder

You must be looking in other places. The amount of 07/08/09 Q7's is minimal as they had a great resale value in the UK and post economic crash they found themselves exported to the UK. Those that weren't crew-cabbed.

Not my first impression with them tbh. Like an elephant on wheels in my eyes:D
A Kodiaq VRS would be more like it

Comparing a Kodiaq to a Q7 is like trying to compare an Octavia VRS to an RS4.

Wonder will the budget announcements make them harder to shift.....or will it up the price of the 2nd hand
    ones

In theory the price increase on any new car should drag up prices of used cars if demand stays the same. So many variables though and we don't live in theoretical world and people often buy with their hearts rather than head which makes it hard to guess. My guess though would be it won't up the price of a 2nd hand one. That type of vehicle is probably on the way out, this is only the first budget we are probably only partly done with planned tax increases.

what are the thoughts on the 'e tron'
seems to be very few on the ground.
I've a charging station across the road in work thats always vacant!

They are just out and won't be a volume seller, too expensive for that. Could see myself in one in a few years no bother. I'd have an a6 etron before it though if audi get around to electrifying saloon cars.
